The wife and I are going to be traveling in the north east this summer on our way to a wedding in RI. I am looking for suggestions of things to see and places to camp over the 8 or 9 days before the wedding. We will be leaving from NJ. We want to camp in 7 or 8 different places before we get to RI for the wedding. Also any great roads would be nice too. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Being a Ct resident for many years, I can suggest Hammonasset Beach has camping but might be more populated. Since you are coming up I-95N, maybe you could detour up old Rte 9 along the Conn River and stop at Gillette's Castle in East Higganum... and work your way East to the casinos (I prefer Mohegan). I know there are many campgrounds on that route but I do not know the names. That's where the internet is handy!

Rte 1 from East Lyme to RI is nice but too much traffic. Mystic village and seaport is interesting if you like marine life and colonial whaling history.

Safe trip!

I stayed at a great campground in Vermont about 10 years ago, called Brighton State Park in Island Pond at the northern part of the state. Was one of the nicer campgrounds I have stayed at and almost on par with the simply amazing Canadian Provincial campgrounds in Nova Scotia.

It is a great location for spending one day riding up all the gaps in Vermont and the next day planning all the great roads in New Hampshire.
