Hey All,

I just got me a 1987 K100LT and looking to learn the ins and outs. I have a Clymer etc, but I learn best by doing and having someone around who knows them. I don't have a garage. I came from the KLR world and they often had tech days. Anyone know of any Beemer tech days. I have posted in ALL the other sites and keep getting passed on to this site or that site.

Hi,

welcome to K11OG!

Our old bikes are so scattered across the country that it's hard to put more than a handful of them together at any given time.

Some dealers have tech days. Although I'm sure they're around, I have not seen another K11 within an hour of the DC Metro area.

I think you're probably in for virtual tech days - but we're good at that here...

Hello Brickrider,

Welcome to K11OG. I wish I had the tech skills to teach a workshop.

I do have garage space so if we can get one of our resident tech whiz's to ride down to the San Francisco Bay Area then I'd be happy to host the workshop.

Are there specific areas that you are looking for help or general maintenance? I had zero wrenching experience before I found this site but thanks to the excellent support and tech stickies am able to do most of the routine maintenance myself.

If you are looking for an "independent" wrench in the area then I'd recommend Ted Porter in Scotts Valley. A couple hour ride for you but he does have a stellar reputation and does not charge like a dealer.

Regards,

Sanjiv

I felt the same way 3 years ago. But after reading lots of posts and asking many questions here, then starting slowly- I ended up doing all my own work, including a clutch replacement last summer.

We have lots of experienced wrenches here- Flying Duck is at the top of the list. Just ask- no questions are dumb. Many of us learned this way.

Best of luck- how can we help you?

John

Do you have the OEM K11 Shop manual in PDF?
Drake could you post the link again?
I am not far...I am not a qualified Tech but I pretend in my own garage on my own Brick. (I've done most of the minor R&R stuff..including a trans + drive. on my Paralever,)
Of course the IBMWR is huge and an amazing resource

I'll second the endorsement of Ted Porter @ Beemershop.com

He is excellent, he did a rear main seal + fixed my scratched Marzoochi fork tubes via lathe + VF wet sand paper, He is a skilled craftsman... a disappearing breed. Great guy. No BS

Michael Pettis in Santa Rosa is also a indy BMW Master tech who Speaks "Klassic K" fluently 707--575-4132. Very responsive also,

BMW NorCal has Tech days occasionally Come over to the 49er...
