|
|
Dropped my LT on the ice last winter and broke the front brake lever and damaged the master cylinder, I have sourced a used replacement but am having trouble fitting due to not being able to work out how to disconnect the heated grips - am I correct in thinking that the wiring for the grips runs inside the RH bar to the left hand side controlls and then externally from there? How do I get enough slack on the wiring to slide the right hand grip off and replace the all in 1 cast front brake & cylinder?
Cheers

Two options:
1) Pull the tank back, snip all of the zip ties, get as much slack as you can through the handlebars to the throttle, cut the wires and then reattach them when putting things back together..
2) Find white square connector under the tank. It will have two black wires and one brown wire going into it and then two pairs of black and brown wires going out of it to the HGs. With a pin or sewing needle pop the clips on the terminals inside the connector to free the terminals from the connector. Then you can pull the wires out of the handlebars. When you pull the wires out, attach a string to the wires that gets pulled through - you'll use that to pull the wires back through when putting things back together.
I use the first method.
Be careful with where the wires connect to the HG at the end of the throttle tube. If you break that connection it cannot be soldered because the heating element alloy doesn't like solder. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
