Hey All,

I have just completed a tour into europe. On the way back I noticed that the clutch appears to be slipping, not when I change gears, but when I acclelerate hard. I have been told that changing the gear oil may solve the problem. I think I have 75w 90 in ther right now. Or am I looking at changing the clutch or clutch disc?

Also, while topping up the engine oil. (Got distracted!) I may have over filled it by 100ml maybe up to 200ml. Should drain a bit to get the level in the window down to max?

If engine oil is ful past max i'd drain some, easiest way is to put a clean catch pan under the sump and slacken the nut enough to drain some oil then refit it quickly, wipe the area clean and recheck levels topping back up with the drained stuff if necessary, save the extra in a clean container for top ups.
Some engines can be siphones with a large syringe, (the vet type) and hose but not the K engine in my experience.
Apparently overfilling can lead to engine oil leaking from the rear seal due to pressure build up which can lead to the next question.

Re the other bit, i'd say it's more likely that you're experiencing clutch slip but changing the oil can't hurt to try.

Kevin - our K bikes have a dry clutch - changing the oil won't help you any.

My K11 did just that at about 60K miles. Not a hard job, but allow 2 days & a brake bleed if ABS2 model.

If you've overfilled it, you could have a wet clutch now & a drip from the bell housing, but as Jim says, tis FA to do with gearbox oil. Your advisor is obviously a Jap bike rider Laughing

Hey All,

thanks for the advice. Didn't realise it was a dry clutch. looks like the bike is going for a trip to the shop. Shit.
