My Bike has been running what appears to be hotter that usual, recently had the bike resprayed, while apart, I flushed the radiator heaps all flowed well also checked the pump, all O.K.
Put the bike back together and it still seems to run hot? I have since purchased a 98K11LT cheap so I have a complete bike for spares.
Just wondering if there was a way to test the sender unit (the one below the water pump) as pulling the unit out means loosing coolant?

Hello!
This little sender on pump housing is only for temp gauge. The temp. sensor for ECU is below the radiator. I don't know characteristics of small sensor, for the engine: plot

Best regards,

Thanks for that info rafal, but it is the small sensor that is below the water pump that I need to know about?

Hello!
The sensor on the cooling pump is only for temperature gauge. It is NTC thermistor, the resistance of the sensor drops, as temperature rises. Usually there is nothing to brake over there, usually the faulty part is connector or wire. Quick check is to take the wire off the sensor - gauge should drop to zero, the short cut it to ground - (i.e. engine housing) and the gauge should go to maximum.
When does the radiator fan kicks in - what is the temp. gauge position?
In Tech. resources there are informations about ECU error codes readout, try to do it and check if there is no error from ECU temp. sensor and you can perform fan test.

Best regards,

would a bad temp sensor cause the bike to not start when hot? I have a K100 that starts great cold but once it gets hot ( and that bike really gets hot) it willnot start till it cools down for a while. Already changed the coils, hall effect, fuel pressure regulator and wired. Still same problem. I have a temp sensor that I have tested and know is good but would that make it not start?

the Engine Temp Sensor located behind the radiator is a dual output unit.

One controlls the motronic(air/fuel mixture) and the othe the temperature switch(fan/temp light). the nominal(70 deg F) value across each is 2.1K Ohms. As they heat up the Resistence decreases.

if your temp sensor is ok, you might have vapor lock. early k bikes gas tanks can get very hot and cause vapor lock.

if you want to check the engine temp, use a laser temp guage and check multiple areas.

What kind of bull..it are you talking about? Have you seen K1100 (Matronic 2.1 or 2.2) wiring schematic?

Did You mean Pyrometer? That's good idea. But the pyrometer has so much common with lasers as laser target pointer with deathly browning 0.50 bullet Wink.

Well not in a while, but have you seen one from a K100? It didnt resemble a turd.

Did you mean the deadly 50 Caliber BMG Cartridge? A .50 cal bullet without a case, powder and primer is as useless as a pryometer without a laser to know where to point it.

phont-ma-dee!!

Mea culpa, head down Embarassed . BTW great wiring schema - very clear. I'll be more humble in the future.
