|
|
Here is my new 'e-bike'.
It has a 350 W 24 V brushless, gearless motor.
Top Speed 18 mph
Distance about 20 miles per full charge.
It uses two AGM SLA batteries.
Average time to charge 4-8 hours, but I have noticed it takes closer to 4.
Great for running errands around town and saving on gas. Pennies to charge. _________________ Rod Kilduff

Very cool! Did you build it? Or buy it? I've been thinking about doing something like that with my bike. _________________ Jim

+1
Is the bike driven by a motor in the front wheel hub?
BTW, as might know, this year at Isle of Man TT, they were just off the 100mph mark with full electric bikes.
You are on the leading edge with your new ride.

Sorry guys, I guess I should have explained a bit more.
Yes, I built it. Bought the bike and the conversion kit separately and did the conversion. The conversion kit consists of a provided hub center front drive wheel with tire mounted, controller, batteries (2), saddle side mount battery boxes (which I didn't use), twist grip throttle, two replacement brake levers (with electric motor cutoffs), pedal crank sensor, and charger.
It took about three hours to convert plus the time to convert the brakes.
I had to get another bike because the front axle is a larger diameter than the one on my old 10 speed.
No Pia lights but the bike shop had some really cool LED running lights I may invest in soon.
The motor is intended as a pedal assist. It helps on the hills and works well on the flats to cruise.
Just a few miles so far. I'm going to get a Sigma speedometer for tracking things soon, too. _________________ Rod Kilduff

Suspect it is Black Final Drive....yep, sad, really sad.
We have braindead laws here that if the motor in an electric bike is over 200 watts it has to be registered as a motorbike! How stupid is that! The kits are available here quite cheap. You can even get ones that are stamped and labelled as 200 watts but are actually the 350 watt ones like this The trouble is Brisbane is really hilly and the 200W ones just don't work, mind you the pedals are there for a reason I guess.
So much for encouraging people to get out of cars! _________________ K1100RS '97

Interesting to see it'll take 2 hours to recharge here as we have 240V but 8 hours in the USA hahahaha.
Pretty cool looking machine hey. _________________ K1100RS '97

Really nice looking bike. Good work!
How much does it weigh now, with the conversion kit? Is it heavy to ride without the help of the electric engine? _________________ Carlos

The gross weight of the conversion package is 50 lbs., including the batteries. It doesn't seem to be that much harder to pedal.
I am looking into the possibility of a solar charger to get it completely off of the grid. Mainly just to see if I can do it. To use the relatively inexpensive units I will have to use two, one for each battery. _________________ Rod Kilduff
