Posted: Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:07 pm Post subject: Advice needed on Electric Screen springs. |
|
|
Having checked my manual I realised that my K1100LT Electric Screen mechanism is missing the two long springs that hook onto the little brass nipples.
The spare mechanism I have is also missing them.
My initial question is how important are these springs? My screen has worked fine for me for a good while & it was only the malfunctioning motor that made me strip it down. Are these spring simply to hold the screen firmly when it's down to stop it chattering about or are they more important ?
I suppose they also aid the motor when the screen is being lowered.
Could someone tell me how strong these springs are, & do they know of any aftermarket ones, off anything, that will fit & do the job.
Any info would be most welcome.
Maybe I could join a couple of shorter springs together? _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing." |

You can get them from the dealer - they are specific for this application, I think. I actually got a set years ago - I imagine they're still available. _________________ Jim

I bought new springs at a hardware store. But I had the old ones to measure. _________________ '93 K1100LT

When the new ones arrive I'll measure them thoroughly & also I'll try and give an indication of their spring strength,
& then I'll post it on here for reference. _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing." |

It took 14 Cans of Pop (Tins of Soda) to extend the spring to it's maximum needed on the screen mechanism.
I've given the capacity & weight of each can, you can do the maths.(math)
They even sent a complimentary sticker & a raised rubber key fob.(£3.99 all in. )
I hope this helps someone someday, esp if they need to do a quick fix & they haven't got time to order the proper spring. _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing."

Motorworks UK still say on their website that they will not ship to USA. So I give a middle finger salute to Motorworks! Moto Bins DOES ship to USA and their service and prices can't be beat! _________________ Ride Safe,

Moto Bins DOES ship to USA and their service and prices can't be beat! | I bought my instrument bulbs from Moto-bins the other day but they didn't have any screen motor springs.
They both delivered as quickly as each other, but imho the springs were actually better packaged than the bulbs were,
& they (Motorworks)gave a free sticker & fob aswell.
I will use whoever has the parts at the right price whenever I need them. _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing." |

Hi, Laverda,
I do the same thing, buy from whomever has the parts at the right price when I need them. Were I able, I might also buy from Motorworks. But since they refuse to ship to the USA, my statement stands. A middle finger salute to Motorworks! _________________ Ride Safe,

Their site says "We regret that, due to insurance considerations, we are no longer able to export to the USA and Canada. " ?
Anyway back on topic :
What exactly do the springs do ?
Do they just keep everything taut, stop things rattling & prevent sloppy movement etc ?
