Chatting with a CHP officer at a cafe in Sacramento the other day, and eying his R1150RT, I asked him when they were going to get him a 1200.
It went something like this:
"When they gonna upgrade you to a 1200?"
"Not going to... looks like I'm getting something else..."
"Really, what's that?" I responded as my curiosity went to full alert.
"Well, looks like we've purchased some Kawasaki's."
"Kawasaki's...." my mind is really going full bore now... "you mean the new Concours?"
"Yup" and he kinda grins but still trying to look serious.
"Holy cow, those things are fricking fast!" I responded.
"Yeah...." he said, as the biggest $hit-eating grin broke out on his face...
This ought to be interesting... _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

Yeah, I've seen ST1300's in my home area of Sacramento, CA and Portland, OR but have never seen a Concours (or FJ) police bike yet. I bet those guys are going to have fun... _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

I talked with a LAPD officer the other night, He was telling me that the next test session they will be testing the Kawasaki, The only reason they didn't test it this go around was because they didn't have a police version of it yet and are currently working on it..
The officer told me he would love to have one for his patrol bike, We were talking about how fast they are and he told me that LAPD would probably put a chip in it to cut the power back.. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

The Concours (C-14 in the North America, 1400GTR most everywhere else) actually comes with a secondary set of butterfly valves ("flies") upstream of the usual set.
They are controlled by the bike's computer to decrease power until about 5000-6000 rpms.
On a few Concours sites, owners detail how they "pull the flies" and after adding a power commander and changing the exhaust, several have documented dyno runs showing in excess of 150 hp at the rear wheel. Giddyap _________________ John & Cathy

Yeah, it will be intersting to see if any of those honchos get into trouble with all that power... after all they have to spank those RT's to get them to go (ask me how I know after owning 2 of the clunky things).
Frequently CHP is used to perform the benchmark testing on vehicles, then other agencies (at least in Calif) are allowed to piggyback off their testing and even the contract in some cases. I know other large agencies such as LAPD do their own testing based on their own set of requirements. _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

Local PD here in Marin is moving to Hondas.
I guess it is the ST-P . I wonder if it has to do with the local BMW closing it's doors. -Of course the Jap bike dealer went under in '09.
It is getting a bit scary... _________________ Tom Connolly
