My side stand switch died a couple of days ago.
Has anyone found a source for an alternate the micro switch or know of a different arrangment. I'm wondering if a reed switch or hall effect switch would work, naturally they would need to be protected from the elements.
Cheers

If you dare, you could by pass that & forget about it.
Just make CERTAIN you have a system in place, mental one that is, so that you don't ride off with it down.
I have a by pass switch installed, my side stand down micro is disabled.
Everytime I get on the bike. I flip up the SS. I check both left & right signals. I check the high beam/head light. I bounce the bike & check the front & rear tire. Then I check the stand again and ride off. AFTER checking traffic of course. Ths is ONLY the bike check after all.
I do it every single time. Mailing a letter, dropping off a video, same deal. Do it all over again. I can do this all in about ten seconds. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Though not advisable, it's usually not the end of the world if you drive off with it down. The first time you make a left it will hit and retract. Yes, it might F up that first turn a bit but it's usually recoverable, at least for me. BTDT several times. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I removed the clutch lever mechanical interlock on my K75 and had a couple of oopsies when I forgot.
Sure the switch is a PITA on the K11 but I'd rather have it than not.
Since my posting it seems like the BM switch is a V4 type which specifies size etc. Will post an exact type when located.
Drake, did you figure out a smart switch arrangment tied with the neutral lamp ?? This could be a good time to impliment.
Thanks

Hi all,
I’ve managed to repair my dicky side stand switch. What I’ve discovered is the original switch is a Burgess, sealed, V4, micro switch. The V4 denotes the dimensions of the switch, quite a few companies make equivalent switches, Burgess switches are the top quality.
A replacement switch from BMW in SA costs around $110, if I’d got one from Motobins it would have cost around $55, I managed to repair the side stand switch for $3:00
I was unable to find any Burgess switches in SA, RS Components stock he Cherry brand which is pretty good. The only prewired types they kept had the wires exiting on the plunger side where as the OE switch exits on the opposite side.
I found equivalent switches at an electronics distributer which has the wiring on the correct side. If you can’t get a switch with the correct pre-wiring buy one with solder tags and encase your wires with some epoxy.
While everything was in pieces I looked at the rear brake switch and bingo..it uses the same micro switch.
Here are a before and after pic of the repair.
Before…
After..
Cheers
