It's September and that means Klinker and Bro take to the road.
Looking over our shoulders on the eastern slope of the Wyoming Big Horns.
Dead Swede campground at the end of about five miles of gravel.
Supper cooking...
...trout with taters and veggies.
Brisk morning.
Western slope of the Big Horns.
On the way up Beartooth Highway.
What a chasm.
What a chasm.
[/img]
Views from the top.
Beartooth and Chief Joseph were most excellent on this fair-weather day. We can check that off the "Bucket List," but I hope to be back.
Camping in the canyon west of Cody.
Next morning.
Wind River Canyon.
Been here before, but worth another photo.
Oregon Trail.
Campsite near Flaming Gorge, Utah.
The reservoir at the Gorge.
Dam.
Highway 191 south of Duchesne, Utah. "Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway." 43 very fine miles.
Looking back from the pass.
Summit.
Campground near Gooseberry Reservoir in the Wasatch Range, Utah. At an elevation of around 8000 feet, it was about 31° F again that night.
Gooseberry Reservior...
...with a Red-tailed hawk.
On to Dead Horse Point State Park.
Colorado River 2000 feet below.
Camping along the Colorado River near Moab.
The rain moved on and left us some color.
Next morning.
Moving into western Colorado.
Valley below.
Camping at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
Black Canyon.
Highway 133 south of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Next day in Rocky Mountain National Park.
We could have taken photos of us back to back pissing into the Atlantic and Pacific, but my Bro's got more class than that.
We should have taken some photos along the Trail Ridge Road (highest paved through-road in North America) but it was freakin' 38° F. We continued east and the temp went up to 80° F in 90 minutes as we rode down and east.
Just under 2600 miles in eight days for Klinker and something like 3800 for Bro, who returned to Minnesota...I think. _________________ tlp

What stunning scenery! Am very jealous.
Is there really a campground called Dead Swede? I bet they don't get too many euro backpackers staying there! _________________ K1100RS '97

My riding buddies and I seem to think those roads are made to blast through as quickly as possible.
I would rather ride with you guys and stop to smell the roses. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for the report. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Awesome trip.
Beartooth, Flaming, Utah, Gunnison - just a small sampling of why the west is the best.
Great pics! _________________ 93 LT (x2)

That's why it's best to ride alone. 150 miles one day, 700 the next - and everything in between. Stop when you want for however long you want. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

So is Beartooth Pass. The summit elevation is 10,947 feet.
I rode over it a couple of weeks ago right at sunset and it was C-O-L-D up there. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Couldn't make up a name like that.

Those from Sweden stay...and never leave...ALIVE.
We steered clear of this place.

The Black Canyon is also 2000 feet deep. But I believe parts of the Grand Canyon are around 6000 feet from rim to river.

Ah, heck. We were focused on the machinery and scenery. But there was this of Bro:
Here's another:
And a food shot while we're at it. Breakfast in Moab with a bit of Bro on the right.
