Just yesterday I received an email from Paul Edlington.

He and Darryl just picked up their bikes from the shipping agent- with their bikes back home and safe, they probably didn't even notice the ground shake. Shocked

Yes there were a few beers spilt but all in the south island, didnt hit us up in the north island thank goodness, main think there as been no reported injuries so far but quite a bit of building damage, so the "brickies" will be rubbing there hands.

Darryl and I got the bikes back home on Thursday safe and sound, but my metal crate took a bit of a hamering and is now down at the local scrap metal yard! so I surpose it did its job ok, will just have to set about building another one for the next trip ( TT 2011 )!!! just need to start scoring somemore brownie points.

Finally got my act together and put my pics onto Photobucket so have a look at the link below, sorry its taken so long, anyway let me know if it works ok as I'm not sure if I've got it right.

We're in Christchurch - helluva way to get woken up at 4:35am, but the damage seems to be very related to where your property lies, eg distance (expected) and soil state (liquefaction effect, unexpected by lots of owners). Quake was about 40Kms away from here, and we still got about a foot of instant lateral movement

Personally, only damage so far is
- mirror/fairing on RS and matching door on wifes' cage where the RS got thrown off the centrestand. Fixable.
- some cracks in the house brickwork
- nerves - we've had 675+ (yes, six hundred) aftershocks in the last 13 days. Getting to the stage of "meh, is it worth getting up for?". Lots of sleep-deprived people around here... if you're really sad, have a look at http://www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz to see what they mean by "swarm".

But could be worse... lots of homes written off (subsidence > 1 meter), off foundations, brickwork collapsing, chimneys thru roofs etc... put it this way, the estimates are around $3-3.5billion US damage to the area. Also very few injuries, luckily was on a Sat morning and the bars etc had closed by then.

Anyway, freaky riding on wavy roads.... Just make sure you've got your personal emergency kits ready, guys. You never know, truely.
