|
|
After riding around on my "naked" K75F wit hthe little K100 headlight fairing I've decided the bike needs a fairing. Originally I was considering putting a K100RS fairing on it with a K75 belly pan. However, I saw this on CL:
Since the bike has zero roundels and the only place it says BMW is on the crank cover I could complete the "steathification" using a K1100RS fairing.
So then the decision becomes how to paint it. Since my K11RS is red I probably won't do red.
But I'm wondering what options there are for some king of unique multi-color paint job. I've always liked the red, white and blue Boxer Cup paint scheme. I wonder if there's a way to make that work on a K1100RS fairing
Any other ideas? I'm more of a mechanic than a color designer so I need some help here.
Got any pictures of cool custom RS paint jobs? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I do not have a pic but one of the coolest paint schemes I have ever seen on a classic K was a guy who basically made the bike a big roundel on each side with the M splash down the top dividing the two. Basically a black line from behind the seat to the front of the belly pan, then another from the headlight down to the back tire, with the right blue and white in each. There was no outer black lines, just the colors.
It was truly eye-catching. _________________

first, are you going to buy that red rs just to take the fairing off? or is that your rs?
second, when i got my bike, i had a what i thought a cool idea for a paint scheme would be. when looking for a bike originally i saw a triumph that was repainted and had the triumph logo redone as a "ghost". so you couldn't see it except when at the correct angle. i have no idea how it was done, but it made me think. i would love to have my bike done in a flat black, but at the correct angle, a roundel is clear across the whole fairing. now the, complete roundel wouldn't fit, maybe just a little past the center divide, and about 2/3 of the height. the cool thing is, because you wouldn't be at the correct angle all the time for all of it, it would kind of slowly come in and out of view.
i like the motorrad colors on the s1000rr now better than the boxer cup. of course, the scheme is very similar, but the lines on the s1000rr are much nicer. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

I bought a parts K11RS last month. I'll get the lowers and belly pan from that.
Over Xmas in SoCal I found a complete (and I mean COMPLETE) K100RS4V fairing for $150. I'll use the main fairing, mirrors w/extenders and interior from that.
Maybe I'll just do blue. I kind of like this one:

I may try to track down some color shifting paint if it doesn't cost too much. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hi FD,
Some time back I posted these; a friend of mine did some photoshop stuff on my bike and came up with these ideas
The design is inspired by this this bike, the HP2 Sport....drool.
Cheers!

that decapitated k11 that i "got" the bar ends off of? not that that piece of info is important ...
i am partial to silver. my dad hates it, but i think it looks very nice on my 328i. though, that dark blue is pretty slick on the m3. man, i really love the way the e46s look. i don't actually much care for the new e90s. i love how swept back the e46s look and how the trunk lid has a very distinct spoiler like element. my roommate as a 2008 e90 330xi and the trunk lid is hideous. ugh. yes, color changing, when done correctly, can be very cool and effective. the downside is the cost you are going to incur to have it done correctly by a shop. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

So much for his stealth theme.
I have seen that somewhere and it was cool! _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

Yeah, I considered silver. At least on cars it tends to hide dirt fairly well.
But the Velvet Blue is really growing on me.
Decided not to experiment with the color changing stuff. Would cost more and might make the bike look like a ricer car. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

then just put a turbo in it and it would be a ricer! or nos. that would work too. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

I'd be careful - that color has been known to cause valve failure... _________________ tlp

WOW!! Nice!!
Altho, stunning paint scheme aside, I'm drooling over that adjustable OHLINS rear shocker with the piggy-back reservoir!!! Anyone got a spare one for a 93 K1100RS lying around that you're willing to part with a for a decent price?
Went for a ride over the weekend, about 800kms, and on the way back I felt my rear end bouncing more than usual (my bike's rear, not MINE per se) and sure enough, got home, took the panniers off and the rear wheel was covered in black gunk. The rear shocker had decided to disgorge all it's oil somewhere along the journey... Bike's at the shop now, we'll see if it's repairable, if not.....ouch.

Hey, Chris:
You really should consider getting one of those RAM/Realm shocks from Beachcomber. They really are a great bang for the buck. (or Ringgit LOL) Quality stuff at a decent price.
Just make sure that you get the right spring for your usual riding load. (rider/passenger plus gear.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks FD!! Do they ship overseas? I mostly ride solo, and only on occasion do I carry loaded panniers, but these RAMs are adjustable right? Would you happen to have the link?
