Good grief, where will it stop? This is like the shaving razors continually adding one more blade.

Why not just leap forward to the 2,000 cc motor? How fast does a bike need to go? How much fuel does it need to burn?

I'm certainly not a speed demon, but I have never once said, I wish my K11 could go even faster. It goes fast enough to scare the crap out of me. I'm sure the new breed of 1200-1400's could quite well keep me terrified for as much as I'm willing to turn the throttle.

How about this for a fun trouble shooting issue five years later:

Quote:
The K1600s features many other innovations, including an adaptive xenon headlight, which works with the bike’s electronics systems, to detect lean, pitch and body angle and to aim the headlight precisely and continuously relative to the road ahead, no matter how curvy.

I can just see the future tech questions, "my adapative headlight keeps shining up at the moon and doing disco 360's at randon, what can I do to fix it?"

Quote:
The K1600GT has a 702.6-pound curb weight, while the K1600GTL’s is 766.5 pounds.

Better eat your Wheaties!

Progress my ass! (rant mode off!)

edit:

and i want to fit an s1000rr engine to a shaft drive on my k11. that would be all i'd need ever. pipe dream sure, but sweet none the less.

That headlight thing really turns me on. If you like to ride tight twisties hard at night (which I do) then the limiting factor quickly becomes the headlight. To offset this I've got my FF50s pointed up and out a bit but it still isn't enough. Provided it works well, I'd buy one of these just for the headlight.

Only 30 lbs heavier than a K13GT? 30 more ft-lbs of torque? Better fuel economy? I like all that.

Probably another 3 large to the sticker, though.

I just want to hear it with the dual Akrapovič pipes. Twisted Evil

Not a very exciting video, but you can hear the Jetsons influence in the sound...

If they're going to go so Jetsons I'm surprised they didn't just be done with conventional headlights and jump straight to an IR HUD projection (like they already offer on the 760 4 wheeler)... can still keep the normal HL for oncoming traffic and just add IR floods.

Also wondering at what point it just becomes easier to go hybrid... no more gearbox, simpler engine, motor that can deliver 100% torque from 0rpms, inherent traction control, green image

Sad Sad Sad

Good morning all....

Unlike others.... I think this new "K" is approaching the new universal standard for UGLY !! What ever happened to motorcycles that look like motorcycles? I remember my first look at the Victory answer to the "gold wing" and thinking .." it cant get much uglier than that ! " Well it looks like BMW is headed down that same road.. Sorry guys, they can keep this one ....

Best regards...........// Ernie in NH

I can only imagine what the "electrical gremlins" will do to that thing.
I think I'll save my pennies and buy another K1100.

I was picking up some little bits at the dealer today and inquired. The 1600 shows up in May. Definitely gonna test ride that puppy. Very Happy

A French mob have done a review of this beastie in South Africa, in English, at http://www.moto-station.com/article10674-bmw-k1600gtl-six-appeal-english-version.html

But you'll already know this if you subscribe to IBMWR Laughing

Apparently pricing for the USA has already been set at something in the mid $20K range; one is willing to bet that by the time it gets here (AU) it will be not far short of AU$40K, given the local prices of the current range.

But from what I have read and what Rydor experienced, they have juggled geometry and mass to have it feel and act like a lighter bike.

And that weight smooths out the long highway miles, IMHO

Gorgeous machine though larger than I would prefer unless Mrs. C. were to develop an affinity for distance touring. Think I might lean toward the K1300GT if I thought I needed a brand spankin' new ride from this category.

The GTL outweighs my Harley Road King.
