Tropical Storm Downpour hit HL Central yesterday.
Those who have been here may recognize the curve coming up from the garage. We had more than 5" of rain in the last 36 hours and the 1'x2' ditch next to our road is now more like 4'x4' and 1/3 of the road is gone.
This will be a PITA to fix. _________________ John & Cathy

Yikes!
You know, I am seeing a Tom Sawyer and the fence thing here, personally I think driving that front end loader around would be a blast!
Years ago I worked construction during summers of college and got to drive a front end tracked loader just once - in the words of my foreman, "I thought it was impossible to get one of those stuck."

That white stuff around the tractor would fill the hole in perfectly. _________________ K1100RS '97

IF it's any consolation, MANY of the places around me look much the same after Friday's torrential rain !

Thanks folks,
Ted- spend way too much time on it in the winter. Our private road is nearly 1/2 mile long. The two other lazy lumps who have houses on it will do nothing and then complain if I regrade and it isn't smooth enough. But here is how I clear snow now
Ernie- yeah, I guess from what we hear that we came out OK. Cathy reminded me that without the (previously small, now much bigger) ditch across from our house we wouldn't have any road left at all.

Meh that's why you need a dual sport bike John. You would look at that runoff and think, "That would make a sweet jump"
While it sucks, it's still minor. Damage to land and machines can be repaired. Hope all is well at the Sugarhill compound.
And yes, I still have your tire on my bike, why would you think otherwise? _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Why do you think I took the time to balance it? Figure it's on the rim for a while.
Next bike into the garage? Think track day bike. A DS bike will have to wait until the "kids" take theirs outta' here.
Thanks for the thought anyway. _________________ John & Cathy

Hey John,
I thought your road in was bad enough when we were there in the spring with the K, next time I'll bring the G/S with me !!!
One thing you don't seem to have any earthquakes up there ! we are keeping our fingers crossed that the ones they are having down in Christchurch don't find there way up here to Auckland

Well, I've got to get started on filling in the grand canyon today.
Unfortunately I need a new attachment for the tractor- a boxblade. Would REALLY rather spend the $$ on bike accessories.
I should do a "trip report" from the tractor seat. A bit more fitting as the weather turns cold and the number of MC riding days dwindle.
Stay tuned........ _________________ John & Cathy

You won't regret it, mine's saved me a lot of time over the years, less time spent grading the driveway, more time to ride and add accessories. (my driveway is only about 900 feet, nothing like what you have to do.) _________________ Mike Currin

Just remembering, FWIW:
The family farmhouse in Wisconsin was more than a half-mile from the highway and the dirt driveway was vulnerable to every spring run-off. But my grandfather and my dad dealt with that annual event with a team of horses and a scoop dragged behind them--until they found a horse-drawn "grader."
Now that we (I speak loosely--I bought the farm until my sibs could sort out what they wanted to do and then sold it to my youngest brother who had a plan) have a tractor and scoop, it's still the same old thing, just a little easier.

echo echo...
Well, we had 10 inches of rain here last night, after 3 days of drenching rain, this morning was chaos! I managed to get out of our driveway but forgot to take photos, was about 2 feet of water running across it.
Some scenes from around town, oh and it's still raining!

Andrew and Frank will be swimming to work I suspect! They've had even more than we had. _________________ K1100RS '97
