I remember there have been a few threads in the past regarding the tracking on K1100's. Some people have experienced the bike wandering off usually to the right. I have had the same throughout my 12 years of ownership and assumed the front end was out of shape in some way or oil quantities were wrong, however I have been unable to pinpoint the problem. Well, now I have, or at least I assume I have. Having recently installed a new rear shock, and having done nothing else to the bike whatsoever, the bike now tracks true.
I'm not saying this is going to be the case for anyone else, but there cannot be any other explanation on my bike. Its also intriguing me about how this change has had such an effect. So, I can take those bricks out of the L/H pannier now....... _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Around here I always attribute wander to the crown in the roads. For some reason they use massive amounts of run-off and our roads here are severely crowned. YMMV _________________ 1997 K1100LT

He's in the UK though so tracking to the right would be "fighting" the crown. (No, not that crown, the one in the road. )
JO recently added another wheel spacer and reports that that cured it. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

When I stopped balancing my tires and started using Ride-On Tire Protection System (TPS) my tire cupping, sculpting and tracking went away.
It adds $15 to a tire swap but when you are getting 10,500 miles of even wear on a set of tires the return on investment is better than gold. |
