As you may know, the stock speakers are enemic!
Is there anyway to connect helmut spearkers or ear buds to the stock radio?

II don't know if it was a separate part or not but some bikes have factory wiring in the radio faceplate for rider nad passenger headphone jacks.
It doesn't show as a seperate in th parts catalog though. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The radio harnes that I bought had a fader control for front/rear. I have been going to put in a jack on the "rear" feed so that I can plug into my chatterbox unit. That way I can have radio instead of my mp3 if needed.

According to my radio manual the optional headphone adapter kit is BMW part no. 95 65 1 000 111. Most dealers don't even show the number in the parts system anymore. I found one after about a month of searching. The manual says it is 16 to 32 ohms impedance with 50 mW max current. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

I know it's been 3 years or so since the above was posted, but I'd give anything to find that part (headphone adapter kit BMW part no. 95 65 1 000 111). Has anyone see one around? I've gone to several electronics shops already and asked of they could install such an item with a few saying they'll take a look, while most others give a flat NO!

Should be pretty easy to DIY it by splicing into the factory wires. I've done it before on different head unit and it worked fine. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The switch I'm looking for shuts the speakers off front and rear, when you're plugged in. I thought about splicing into the speakers, and using a basic switch to manually shut the speakers off... But how do you get all 4 speakers to shut off with one switch? Use a common ground???

Seems to me when I went looking to do it on my own (before finding the factory piece) an audio guy told me it wasn't simple to do because the radio uses a floating ground to the speakers. I have no clue as to what that means other than I could not simply hook ear buds to it.
I used the factory setup until I tired of the crappy signal pickup and sound quality. Went to an aftermarket radio with wired remote for the handlebar.
I get 10x the stations, better sound (aftermarket speakers) MP3 CD and Ipod hookup. I bought one of those high quality sealed relays from Eastern Beaver so that I can turn the speakers on and off as I want. I am also tapped into the RCA out jacks on the stereo for my helmet speakers.

I just got done doing this on my R1100rt radio. I picked up a 3.5 jack that turns off the main speakers when you plug into it. I then put that in line with the bike speakers. The thing you have to remember is that the power going to the speakers is to much for headphones or ear buds so what I ended up doing was making a pigtail that has a 5watt 100 ohm resistor in line for each speaker and this works great. _________________ Rich

This is not always true. Some earbuds have a high impedance so adding a resistor isn't always necessary. I used some earbuds with a Pioneer head unit and just hooked them up to the speaker outputs and it worked fine. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

What it means, is that the negative side of the speakers is NOT ground (earth), therefore if any of the speaker wires touch ground, it will knacker the radio output stage. I got round this by connecting a stereo ground loop isolator across the front speaker outputs & it's output to the comms system.
The ground loop isolator has two 1:1 ratio transformers inside which pass the sound, but do not have any direct connection to the radio.

Your audio guy should have known about these.
For our English readers you can get one here :- http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=33172 or here http://cpc.farnell.com/_/a-1095/ground-loop-isolator/dp/AV12774

I have a spare 3.5 switch. PM me your address and I'll drop it in the mail to you. _________________ Rich
