I didn't know there was a metallic tube for the K, Jose.
Curious: a friend told me that he fixed various BMW's with the same problem: an RT1100, two K1200LT and mine. Could this be a production defect? He also assists Yamaha's and says it never happened.
Anyway, my problem is solved. The K rides again! The weather isn't helping at all, but I'm already missing my "therapy". Next week I'll dare the wind, rain and cold...

Went for a small ride back to 'Sesimbra' today. Just to have lunch and clear the ideas, after more than a month without riding.
This time, only me and a friend with a Honda Dominator. I hope you enjoy this tour.
Lunch at a small restaurant, 'Lobo do Mar' (Sea Wolf).
These are some usual, basic appetizers. Bread...
... and olives.
The salade is already waiting. Tomato, lettuce, onion and green pepper, seasoned with olive oil and vinegar.
Now, a vegetable soup...
... followed by the main course: grilled grouper and boiled potatoes.
Ah, and an orange, to finish the meal.
Afterwards, time for a quick visit to 'Cabo Espichel' (Espichel Cape).
'Ermida da Memória' (small chapel)
Two views of the shoreline, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.
'Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Cabo', (Church of Our Lady from the Cape, 18th century).

Yes, it is, Jose. Usually very windy! Fortunatelly, we were lucky with the weather.
It rained on friday, it's raining today... Yesterday the sky was cloudy, but no rain, no wind, and the temperature was allright, about 18º C/ 65º F.
Well, it's relatively close to where I live, around Lisbon. When you come back to Portugal, tell me about it. We'll meet and maybe ride together, if you come on one of your nice K's! _________________ Carlos

Christmas is whenever Man wants it, right?
So, here's a "new" present for my K: heated grips, from a '95 KLT.
Push button to complete the crash pad:
Anyone care to tell if they're effective? I only have the experience of a R1150RS, but it was positive. It helped to warm the fingers and palm of the hands.
Thanks! And Happy New Year to all! _________________ Carlos

Karlos - they work quite well. A few guys have had a problem with fire when using them on the low setting - but there is a simple fix for that. High is nice when it's really cold. _________________ Jim

About the metalic brake oil tubes are much better
with originals oil brake tubes when is warm the oil or when they´re a little bit damage you have not a good brake, take a look.

What kind of fire, Jim? Cylinder firing problems? And what sollution would that be?

Hi, Jose!
Wow, those photos are amazing! In the second one, under braking, looks like the tube is about to burst!
If I have another problem regarding brake tubes, no question about it: I'll go for metalic ones, like yours'. Thanks for the advice, Jose.
And Happy New Year to you too!! _________________ Carlos

The low setting on the OEM heated grips passes the current through a resistive wire. If left on for an extended period then it can heat up the wire so that it's insulation melts which then causes a short and blows the number 1 fuse. How common it this? Fairly rare but not unheard of. Usually the fuse just blows but under VERY RARE circumstances it can actually start a fire and burn up the bike.
Simple solution: Don't use the heated grips on low. You can disable the low setting by clipping the orange wire on the back of the switch.
Fairly easy solution: Get a flasher relay that will handle at least 5 amps and replace the orange wire in the intermediate wiring harness with the flasher relay.
Easy but more costly solution. Buy a heated gear variable controller and wire the heated grips up to that.

I went for a ride today with a couple of friends. We went to see what's new for 2011 in 'Expomoto', a national motorcycle exhibion taking place until February 13th.
It was a cold, but nice sunny day. I hope you enjoy the photos I took... mostly in the parking lot. My son's new camera is still too much for me to handle.
Nice Dnepr 750 with sidecar. A very smooth engine to hear.
My travel companions' Suzuki V-Strom 650 and BMW F800GS...
... and my K.
Yet another K11 (saw more, but the photos "got ruined").
The BMW from Bianchi Prata, a portuguese rider that finished 28th in the last Rali Dakar, in South America.
... and a K1, to finish with. It was being sold with about 30 thousand kilometers on the clock. Already had a small note on the tank: 'reserved'.

Karlos,
Thanks for the pictures. Always interesting to see bikes in other countries, some are makes/models that are not sold here and others that are very rare to see in the U.S.

Thanks John. I'm glad you like it, because that's exactly what I enjoy about K11 OG: to be able to see different places, different foods, different people (and bikes) shared in the Forum by riders of a same motorcycle - "our" K. I'll keep posting my contribute in my topic.
Thanks again for your kind words. _________________ Carlos

In these hard times (the International Monetary Fund and two other organizations arrived to Portugal yesterday to "teach" the government how to act properly...), I can only look to the future. A photo of my older boys innocentely playing on the K without knowing the country is going through serious dificulties...

I constantly worry about the crap economy we are saddling our kids and their kids with. They will be paying for this whole economic disaster for decades to come.
Most of the world economy (especially the U.S.) is like a spendoholic with an unlimited credit card. _________________ John & Cathy
