The last 24 hours has been unbelievable with 8 more dead and 66 still missing from last night, the next 24 hours just plain frightening. Fortunately Our houses are up high in Brisbane but a lot of people either already are or will be in big trouble, check out some of the videos here:-

Not looking good - just watched the ABC news and 20 of 30 minutes was devoted to the floods. I wonder if the ABC saw the irony - when they finished the news on the floods the presenter said something like "and now bushfires in Western Australia..."
I really feel for the people in Grantham in particular (and the rest of the flooded areas too); watching the footage of what happened there reminds me so much of how things panned out on Christmas Eve 1974 - albeit with a bit less water - when I had the poor sense to be in Darwin for Tracey.
I'm glad I don't live in West End - where I spent a little time from January 1975, just after the last lot of floods in Brissie. _________________ David, owner of:

I was listening to the radio just a while ago and the news say that Brisbane is isolated! They had on the phone a portuguese that lives there. He talked of water level up to four meters. After watching an amateurs video on ABC webpage, sure is impressive! _________________ Carlos

| Not a lot of fun here in Ipswich. I'm cut off (all the bridges are underwater). Power went off last night, but luckily was restored tonight. Luckily my house is 40 metres above the river, but the water is at the end of my street. The Bremer River is about 400 metres across here. It's normally not much more than a puddle. I'll just have to sit it out for the next week. Looks like I'll be going on a diet! |

Hi guys...
Been watching the news and the rains 'down under'... we have our issues here with snow and ice, but nothing compared to what our brothers and sisters in Oz are going through. Got our fingers crossed for all in QLD and hope you're out of danger very soon !!
Best wishes to all.........// Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

Got home no problems, have 4 or 5 mates who have been totally flooded. Can't get to them to help for a few days I suspect. _________________ K1100RS '97

Drikko,
Good to hear you are OK, but the devastation to your area is unbelievable!
We have seen short TV clips of the flooding .
I have seen other floods where cars, trees and other debris go floating by, but when video of the QLD disaster shows houses and large trucks being carried away it gives flooding a whole new meaning.
Best of luck.

Hi Guys
Certainly bad news with all the flooding.
Both Sue and I are traffic controllers and we spent 3 days up in Ipswich controlling at road closures. It gives a whole new meaning to diaster.
A few of the police we talked to said that they where run ragged. A couple of them where helping get people out while their own homes where going under.
We now both have a couple of days off before the real work (for us) starts again next week, getting the roads back up to scratch. _________________ Ride safe

Hi Andrew
Too much work to be seeing anyone. Had to spend Tuesday night at our mates place in Raceview as we couldn't get home.
Glad to see the water level is receding and now the major cleanup is under way.
BTW, how did you fare, high and dry or wet? _________________ Ride safe

| High and dry. However, the only way you could have visited was by boat. We were cut off on all sides. |

G'day Everybody
A link to the ABC website showing some roll over photos. Once you click on larger picture Nearmap allows you to zoom in/out. Worth looking at.

Some very graphic shots of the scope of the flooding showing before/after.

I'm back folks, interesting follow up to the cleanup, as mentioned in the other floods thread I spent last Saturday playing in mud helping out, on the Saturday night I was feeling progressively worse and by Sunday morning I felt positively feeverish and 2 cuts on my legs started to puss up despite my best efforts to keep then clean.
Of course I could have gone to the doctor had I not been going to Singapore Sunday afternoon, so I struggled around the house packing my bag (yeah I'm a last second packer...), got on the plane, struggled off the other end Sunday night, went to bed, had a day of meetings Monday, really fought hard through that, went up to the hospital Monday afternoon in Singers, they had me diagnosed within about 15 minutes, ultrasounded some bits they were concerned about, wanted to hold me in overnight on an Antibiotic drip which I couldn't do as I had a dinner meeting that night, so they pumped me full of ABs, gave me some horse sized tablets, promised I'd come back in for top up needles every morning and night all this week which I did, gave me a barrow full of tablets to take home yesterday which I am taking, upshot is am feeling better than I have for months, all better. Probably because I haven't had anything to drink more than anything else
Now here's the thing, they never asked me if I was insured, they explained the costs up front, total costs for all this care was about S$800 (A$660) including the drugs!! And what's even more amazing is I never sat on a waiting bench more than a few minutes and ALL the staff were smiley and very friendly (oh and rather cute...).....now that's a medical system, and this was a public hospital!
Singapore, you done well!!
