So after unsuccessful attempting to chase the CLQ folk all weekend, and yes they have bigger balls than me, I finally got to pick up the RGS fresh from USA this morning ;D ;D
I have to admit the things Joshua said are wrong with it are easily fixed, but boy for a 27 year old bike it is in remarkably good condition!! The battery had just enough oomph to crank it over one compression so I know the starter clutch is OK and it has a crankshaft, the oil looks like new, fuel looks OK although I'll flush it out. The clutch slave cylinder needs fixing and the bleed nipple for it looks to be broken off. Need to get it off somehow, will look at that tonight.
The mufflers look like the noisy f%^&ing things same as the ones on Peter Carters RGS which Cosi deafened the cows with this weekend. Hope they are a bit quieter!! My neighbours will kill me
But apart from that it is excellent, even the tyres look relatively new Avons, only just worn the moulding nipples off!
So some pics, BTW the security at the pickup shed was non existent, bit of a worry actually, we could have driven off with some awesome looking machines!! Turned up at the office, they pointed to where it was, didn't even ask for ID, we loaded it up and drove away without anyone asking a thing!!!
Some of the other stuff there:-
Norton, hardly and a dragster!
Who in their right mind would buy a piece of crap like this!!
Where are you argy, where are you, oh there you are......hiding!
Still got the Californian plate on it, that'll go on the bar:-
All tied up and it didn't move a mm going home:-
Some nice sep iron:-
This was my favourite, those twin scoops on the bonnet looked awesome:-
So now to get it complianced, serviced etc.....
BTW can anyone tell me what the green car is? It looked SO cool, and I don't really like cars that much!! _________________ K1100RS '97

| Looks to me like a late '60s or early '70s (color could be clue, I'm not an expert) Dodge Super Bee. Close cousin of the Plymouth Road Runner. Maybe a 383 or 426 Himi. Will go fast quickly, empty a gas tank quickly, and let the smoke out of a set of tires quickly. Fun car in a straight line. |

Just went and googled dodge super bee and the photos kinda looked like it has a different tail end but maybe it's the angle. I shoulda looked at the paper work! Even from a distance it really grabbed me!
Oh well, can't afford one of those, probably gone to collector status in US already. _________________ K1100RS '97

Not a car expert either but the black stripe on the rear end looks like Super Bee graphics to me.
Fun cars, until you want to stop or turn. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

It is indeed a Super Bee, or a stock Coronet 440 made into a Super Bee via graphics. Would have to have the VIN to know if it was real or faked. I can not tell you the number of times I had to tell some kid that he just paid extra hard earned cash for a Z28 that was really a stock Camaro with graphics, or Le Mans converted to GTOs that was popular too. I had a stock 440 as a kid, awesome car, even though it only had a 318 engine it was very fast. Too fast DAMHIK.
Oh, and the official Dodge Name for that color was Bright Green, they were so original weren't they? Ford has a similar color called "Grabber Green". _________________ 1997 K1100LT

D.
Cool looking bike you picked up there. I don't remember reading how you found it.
Customs warehouse looks like a fun place to nose around.

The owner advertised it in the Laverda Forum. I had a hunch it was well looked after. The more I poked around it last night the more I realise it was true. I haven't been able to fault anything yet except the broken clutch slave cylinder, but he got all the bits flown down from Canada before it left and they are all there under the seat.
Can't wait to start it up, got the battery charger on it now!
It wasn't actually the customs warehouse, just a private shipping company. Couldn't believe the lack of security! _________________ K1100RS '97

Nice work Drikko...
We're bleeding all the good stuff out of the Sepos now that the dollar has parity...
An easy-out should get the nipple out.
Maybe don't use any petroleum products on the nipple because of it being brakes and having rubber cups on the slave piston close-by.
On the dayglo green car, I'm with Robleyd

But does look like the famous Ozzie variant the Chrysler Valiant, prolly with the fabulous push button auto tranny.
Well take your time, remove the stashed goodies and get her through the official hoops and ONTO DA ROAD.
Well done Mate Cool AS |

Then there is always that sort of grooved rod, sorta hex shaped with a loose nut that can be slid up n down it.
You gently hammer in the grooved rod hexy thing, slip on the nut and gently unwind it.
Very strong, I have successfully used em getting out snapped off 4x4 engagement hub hex bolts. Good steel.
A tiny bit of heat from a mini torch would not hurt BUT dangerous due to fragile cylinder contents.
All good and pics are your friend |

The Laverda people have explained how to bleed the clutch system without even worrying about the little bleeder, so will try that first.
So I got brave and started it up tonight. I think I woke everyone up within about 4 klms!! Holy F^&*ING CRAP IT WAS LOUD!!!! Seems it has Jota pipes which are close to non existent!! Still after 5 months laying dormant, once the battery was charged it started first turn with a few backfires and a bit of black smoke, but boy did it sound good!! Might have to get some quieter mufflers though
The kids came running out of the house wondering if we were under attack!!
No untoward mechanical noises I could hear over the exhaust which is a good thing _________________ K1100RS '97

So I was a bit naughty today but I needed to see how it went on the road as it has an idling issue, so I swapped the number plate from the beemer onto the argy to go for a spin
I also thought there was a leak in the oil cooler, so here is what I wrote up for the Lav forum:-
Well that was fun!!
So off idle it pulls like a train, so definitely a problem with the idle and/or the low speed circuits in the carbs. Will poke around that when it cools down.
No leak in the oil cooler, it was just the flood of brake fluid from the clutch repair process, dry as a bone now. Either that or there's no engine oil left!!
So what are my opinions of it against the beemer?
Not as fast acceleration but not far behind, although I was taking it easy I guess, the brakes are horrendous! Will look for better pads, absolutely no feel.
The handling and steering was awesome, made the beemer feel like a barge. The steering is SO pin sharp, just fabulous, can't say enough superlatives about the handling. The shocks felt great even though there is no rebound adjustment or anything. I need to jack the springs up a bit though.
Vibes were bad if off the throttle, once again I think the carb issues are the reason for this.
A little bit of tappety noise, but not as bad as the video posted of the lav behind the Norton.
So once I fix the low throttle issues I'm sure it will be awesome, but sheesh it was loud with the wick on full!! Although when cruising it was pretty quiet.
So I can see how well it will eat the miles, and I can see clearly now how I couldn't keep up with the boys on the weekend, these thing steer/handle like nothing I've ridden before!
Am dreading the brakes in the wet with the total lack of feel. Am used to the comfort of knowing there's ABS to save me, not to mention the awesome feel of the beemers brakes!
Since writing this I've been pointed to F08 pads that actually work and possibly a slightly smaller master cylinder to improve brake feel.
A VERY different bike to the beemer, you can feel everything going on except the braking. But that was only a 15 minute ride! _________________ K1100RS '97
