So, this was awaiting pickup in Waco (shipping charge would probably have been less than the cost of gas but waiting for a brown truck delivering a brown box is not nearly as much fun as riding)


so I headed West (with a little South thrown in) at 10AM, exactly 1 hour later than planned, with the goal of being at the bike shop NLT 1PM. The weather was nearly perfect for riding: high 60s easing up into the low 70s with total overcast so sunglasses were not needed, and the stiff breeze gusting hard on the port bow just made the ride more interesting.

Since I was running late, taking pics on the way was out of the question and after a fuel, Mtn Dew, and nicotine break, I managed to make up the lost time and arrive exactly at 1P. (Note that I left the Zumo running for about an hour after getting home before taking the pic so the Overall Avg is FUBAR. I'm not sure if the Moving Avg was affected but I don't think so. 56.2mph seems about right considering that I made four stops on the way back.)



Riding suit collected, I asked about a nearby place to grab lunch before heading back and was directed to


where I declined a menu and asked for a lunch plate, chips w/salsa, and iced tea.


Lunch was excellent and almost more than I could eat, but, not having eaten since just after dark Wednesday, I persevered and crawled out of La Familia at ~2:30P, a half-hour after closing time, needing a siesta bot otherwise ready to hit the road again. The bill was less than $11, including tax.

On the outbound leg I stayed on US84 all the way to Waco, so I took TX165 through Mart, Groesbeck and Buffalo on the way back for a little variety. Both routes offer mile after mile of beautiful, wide Texas two-lane, much of it with shoulders wide enough to drive on and there were many, many instances of that most friendly gesture, the "Texas Pass," from everything from little beat-up Japanese pickups, to fairly new Cadillacs, to commercial vehicles.

First stop on the return leg was at the DG in Mart for some of those fat ponytail thingamadoodles to see if the cheap "cruise control" I'd read about would work. It did, half-a**, for about 5 miles then the thingie worked its way partway out of the crack between throttle grip and switch housing.

Next stop was in Groesbeck for fuel. How long's it been since you've seen a real, actual, honest-to-doG Service Station?



I picked up US79 at Buffalo and back onto US84 in Palestine with a stop on the East side at the



And having stopped there, it seemed only fair to stop again at the other terminus, just West of Rusk.



Another half-hour from there and I arrived home at 6:01P and found a big brown box waiting. The Corbin saddle is here!

p.s. If you're ever in Waco and need some bikey type stuff, you might check with Tim & Susan at Mitchell's Cycle Sport at 1701 La Salle. They're really nice folks and had a heck of a supply of tires at prices a good deal better then what you typically see at a "stealership." (And La Familia is only 5 short blocks away!)

Nice little trip report and you included the (semi-required) food picture.

Thanks for the pictures and story- It will be another month or so until I am able to start riding and after seeing warm Texas I am REALLY anxious to get on the road.
