So upon Duck's advice, we didn't attempt a rebuild of the leaking front brake master cylinder at the moment, hoping that we just screwed up a bit when installing the new front pads and that all will be well. I did pull the plastic cover, wiped everything dry that I could reach, and after putting a small piece of absorbent towelling inside the cover, will just monitor it for a while longer.

Had to redo the transmission fluid, as we had lost the washer on the drain plug when we did it the first time (found it in the drain oil).

The carbtune came in, and so we headed in that direction. Had to wake Phil up from a sound sleep to find out how to get the damn radio box out so that we could remove the lower fairing; he's so gracious. It'll be interesting to see if we get everything connected back up; most connectors seem rational, but there's one grey-to-purple connection that must be remembered.

Got side-tracked, as the K75 had taken a drop on the left side and the engine guard had done its job, shearing at the three rubber mounts. Those mounts are common to the K75 and K11, and so we raided the parts K11 for them for a quick fix. Initially puzzled by the apparent disparity on the good K11 between the left and right sides; three shear assemblies on the left, but only one (the top) on the right. The parts bike was set up in the same way, and the parts list, upon closer examination, appears to support that disparity.

So the lower fairing is now off: while it is, we have to figure out if we want to bend the mounts a little bit because the PO had dropped it and there's a disparity between the left and right sides; the left seems to be distorted. So we'll probably play with bending the mounts a bit to adjust.

We're now working on the engine while the fairing is off: pulled the plugs which needed replacement, but the compression test came up with relatively equal numbers across all four cylinders.

In addition to the mud-dauber nests we found, there's old oil sitting on top of the engine block; is there a vent tube that we need to check before we put things back together?

Tomorrow's project is using the new carbtune to synch the throttle bodies, and then I've got to do the taxes or I may get divorced again.

Thanks for reading.

Larry

While messing around wth the front brake assembly, I noticed that the top end of the throttle cable assembly was cracked; it's the l-shaped elbow just beneath the handlebar.

I'm thinking that I could just surface-patch the plastic parts with JB Weld or something similar--just to keep the heavy rain here in El Paso out of the cable assembly. I'm not really keen on buying an entire new cable assembly which is the only replacement option.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again for your patience.

Larry

Yes, replace it at once.

There is no 'patching' that worth the bad day you'll have if it breaks roadside.

I always carry a spare throttle and clutch cable. ALWAYS.
