|
|
Last week I asked what plugs I should put in my LT, this week the subject is battery. My Panasonic stinks!
What should I replace it with and where should I buy it?? I want something that will last.
Thanks! _________________ "Still can't find 6th gear" 94 K1100LT |

Looks good! How long have you been using it?
Mine will barely start the bike in cold weather unless I charge it right before. _________________ "Still can't find 6th gear" 94 K1100LT |

By sheer coincidence, and despite I am the other side of the big pond, I use the same battery as Mystic Red.
Had mine for just on a year, and its never failed. I did take it off the bike and put it on trickle charge through the harshest low temperatures we had through the winter, but as I wasnt using my Brick I would have done that anyway, whatever the battery.
Cheers.

I am on my 6th year with my Odyssey. I keep it on my Battery Tender when I am not riding and it is still going strong. _________________ Rich

I'm 5 years on with a Westco, can't remember the full product name, but I think it has a "20p" in it. No problemo. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Westco is a rebranded Panasonic - at least on this side of the pond.
+1 on the Odyssey. _________________ Jim

Stu - I've got a bunch of stuff hooked up to mine, but I don't like it. Getting ready to put an Eastern Beaver fuse block in to get rid of all the stuff on the positive terminal. You might want to take a look at adding a fuse block. _________________ Jim

Currently my 4 year old BMW own Brand battery is doing just fine,(hooked up to a tender when in my garage) but if and when it expires I will go the Odessey route also.
Several friends have had them for years without problems, even with lots of extra electrical goodies fitted to their bikes. _________________ 1993(94 MODEL) K1100RS IN ASTRAL BLUE

I put in a Universal Powersports in 2007. I keep it on a tender and it has never let me down. It has 440 CCA at 22 AH and is only $74.95 with free shipping from ebatteriestogo.com. It is also a sealed AGM battery.
Don't know how long it will last, but there are no signs that it is going away any time soon.

I was surprised that the Odyssey only has 220 CCA. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

Mines at least 5 years old. You won't be disappointed. It's a smidge taller so insulate the bottom of your motronic with something to keep the contacts away from it. Thin piece of rubber or foam glued on will work, just to be safe. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

As I'm looking to strip out as much as possible from my K11, what's the smallest battery I could use to start the bike? No ABS, stereo, heated grips, GPS, widescreen TV etc, just bare bones starter motor and lights. _________________ 1993 BMW K1100RS

Don't think the battery would care about most of those items as the load shed relay should drop them out. Your alternator would care though. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

I like the odyssey. I sleep with my cpap on for 8 hours and it starts the bike fine in the morning. Its lighter than most other batteries. _________________ 93 K1100LT

My first Odyssey lasted 5 years or so but it had a checkered past. (Several deep discharges and also some periods of inactivity not on a charger.) For what it went through I think five years is pretty good. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
