I bought a K 1100LT 1997.Was going to check the condition of tank and fuel pump.Pictures show the pump in the fuelfiller.My pump sits on the left side bottom inside the tank.(pretty hard to get at).Do different bricks have different fuel pumps?

Only difference is that the 94 and later have a smaller diameter fuel pump. Just pop the clips at the front and rear of the plastic mounting ring to get it out.

Thanks for the prompt reply.So the fuelpump sits on the bottom of the tank and can be removed by undoing a couple of clips?I downloaded and
printed the repairmanual.It does not go into much detail of the removal.
The diagrams I saw made me think that the pump was suspended from the fuel filler.Is there a detailed instruction on the removal of pump?

I just removed one a couple weeks ago while replacing the fuel level sending unit also in the tank on a 96 K1100LT. You naturally need to remove as much fuel as possible from the tank. Remove the gas cap and filler neck bolts. You should then be able to reach down in the tank and pull out the fuel pump that simply sits in a clip at the bottom of the tank. Two wires - positive and ground connects to the top of the fuel pump.

I can just reach into the tank and unclip the pump?I had the filler off to look into the tank.It looks very clean but I could not see myself going at the pump with wrenches and stuff.I have no reason to take the pump out but I try to become more familiar with the bike.The partsdiagrams I found seemed to show the pump in the fillerneck. |

You may have noticed the fuel pump has a screen at the bottom. However, the fuel filter is connected after the fuel pump. So the fuel flows through the pump before going through the filter. If your fuel pump ever stops working and you have power to the pump, you can usaully tap the side of the fuel pump on a hard object to loosen up any crap that may have clogged the pump and they usually start up again. Good to know if your on the road and your pump doesn't start up when you turn the key.

When you look down onto the fuel pump, you'll see like 6 hex nuts around the perimeter that look like they're holding the pump in, DON"T MESS with those, they can stay, just look/feel around the sides of the white plastic bracket for two large thumb tabs on each side, depress those and the pump comes right up and out.
