Could be as simple as a dirty switch. I had one that way.

Could be more complex as a broken wire, or a skinned wire that has caused a blown fuse.

Are both sides out or just one.

First, are your temp and fuel gauges working? (grips and those gauges are on the same fuse)

Next, have you checked the wiring going to the back of the heated grip switch? Broken wires there and at the grips themselves are good suspects.

Then there is the connection under the fuel tank, left side.

Others will be along soon with more info.

Good luck.

That's your warning.

If that cinnector under the tank is all corroded, do you're self a favor and check, clean, and lube all the other's you can see/find.

I'm generally NOT a proponent of fixing what ain't broke. But on the K's, taking care of the electrical connections can make a huge differance in performance & reliability.
The latter meaning the differance between a fun riding weekend and a miserable adventure.

If you wait till something is NOT working, it is no longer maintainence. It is then repair.
