Neither of the kids live with us anymore.
But their bikes do. _________________ John & Cathy

| John great looking bike! I know you don't have much time on the new one but what sort of comparisons can you draw between the two Ks? You had the 1100 and now the 100, I'm kind of curious (and envious). |

Interesting question. I was sort-of thinking about that yesterday on the ride.
Remember that I haven't ridden the K1100 since early spring and since that time I have put 10,000 miles on a very smooth but heavy Concours. So my memory of the 1100 isn't exact. Also on bikes this old some of the differences could be due to things changed/fixed/upgraded by a P.O.. But here goes....
**At certain RPMs the K100 feels a bit "buzzier" than the 1100, but IIRC someone (was it FD?) indicated that some 4 cylinder bricks just have a bit more vibration that others. A check of the various rubber parts of the intake tract, a valve clearance check plus a TB sync is in order soon.
**The K100 front suspension feels softer than the 1100- a bit more brake dive- but that could be fork oil amount. That is another one of the things I'll be checking this winter.
**Here's the biggest difference The K100 has the SLICKEST shifting trans I have ever felt on a brick (I have ridden 5 total). I hardly feel any pressure against my foot on up or downshifts- it is almost too little.
Yesterday as I approached a corner after a long straight I went to downshift, didn't feel it so I hit the lever again then blipped the throttle and let out the clutch. I was actually 2 gears down and the back end did a little squirrely skid for a second. I paid more attention to my foot and the gear indicator after that.
**Clutch pull is lighter on the K100, but the P.O. just had the cable replaced, so that doesn't count.
**The K100 seems to change direction faster? From what I can find, there is a published weight difference between the two- The spec page on the K11OG site lists the 1100 as weighing 564# dry. I found a site that lists the K100 as being 518# with a full fuel tank (that would calculate to about 485# dry).
I find it hard to believe that going from the 100 to the 1100 would result in an 80# increase. But even if the difference between the two is closer, the K100 seems to weigh less- is that what I'm feeling or is it my worsening memory??
Finally, and it will be next summer before I can really tell- I'm hoping that the less enclosed engine on the K100 will throw less heat onto me- I might ditch the belly pan for the warmer months for more airflow over the exhaust header. We'll see......

Just what I did last Sunday and hit the corners as hard as I wanted to with the asphalt at 30 or so degrees F.
It feels really good.
So my "thanks giving" is for finding a K bike that seems to be even better than the first two I owned.

The snow is FINALLY leaving so I got a chance to get out our road and do a 1+ hour ride.
The K100 feels good. Roads still have an odd bit of sand here and there, but nearly all are clean.
Stopped for a few pictures

Nice, nice, nice.
We have a gorgeous day here in the Seattle area and I'm not going to get to take advantage of it in the manner of my choosing. _________________ Lee

Oops! Lost count. Must be snow blindness
Is this stuff ever going to stop?
Hoping to do a ride with Jen on Monday- she is moving to R.I. end of next week for a new job but she is coming to HM IV with me.
See you there!

Great looking bike, about the pearl white color, here's what I have:
I had mine repainted 2 years ago, looks better than showroom. Might just be my imagination, but the white color seems to make the bike more visible to other traffic, it looks like a police bike at first glance. I am adding some LED running lights from Twisted Throttle to aid in my night driving, when I get the bike back, I'll post a picture of it with the lights installed. I have had my bike since 1993, can't imagine life without it.
Oh, and what is the HM gathering? _________________ Steven B

Steven,
Great looking ride- I like the color matched lids- nice detail.
I was contemplating having mine painted bright white next winter, perhaps with the "Moto Sport" pinstriping (it has 2 blue stripes now- the moto sport is one blue and one red).
HM is Hungry Mother (held at Hungry Mother State Park in Virginia) - the largest K11OG meet of the year.
Check out HM on the meetings subforum.
