Hy Every on, My name is Thomas. I am from Germany and I moved to the US about 14 years ago.
I live in Nevada and I work in Utah. Once a week I drive my 91 K1 to Utah and then back to Nevada.
Two weeks ago I became the owner of a fixer upper 93 K11LT with 118000 miles on it and I was looking for info on the net when I found this forum.
Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here.
The LT seems to be a more comfortable and relaxing ride then the K1 but it will be some time before I can figure this out
because I can only work on her on the weekends.
What I know so far!
She needs a fuel pump incl. vibration damper, new fork seals and some oil free front brake pads.

What did you have to do to modify the European models to register the bikes in the U.S.? _________________ 1995 K1100RS

Hallo Jim
You can not do the conversion yourself.
You have to pay a specialized shop thousands of dollars to convert a bike to
EPA and DOT standards.
You are allowed to operate a bike for one year in the US without conversion.
After that time the bike has to be exported out of the country, or it has to be destroyed.
So you can bring in your bike for a extended vacation.
I also heard of a other possibility to import your bike.
Don't import your bike, just import parts.
Yes, all parts of the bike, except for the frame.
Then buy a used frame with title here in the US , put the bike back together and register it.
I think that only works with models that ware sold in Europe and in the US. _________________ 86 R80G/S

How about just shipping it over and riding, keeping it insured and registered in another country, any time limits on that I wonder. Have seen U.S. tagged bikes floating through Europe, even a few Aussie bikes bounceing around.
Any idea where to look up more info on that? _________________ 1995 K1100RS

Well, If the moderator tells me it's OK!
It's a 1960 Unimog 404,ex German army troop carrier.
The truck was in such bad shape that I got it in exchange for some work.
The only change I made during the restoration is the engine.
The original 2.2 liter gas motor was not running anyway,
so I put a 5 cylinder turbo diesel in .
Before the resto.
And after

To Jim
I have seen motorcycles and unimogs with German license plates driving around in Nevada.
There must be a way to do it , but I don't know how.

+1 VERY NICE restoration.
IIRC, these vehicles are really great in all sorts of terrain, correct?
and the company had lots of different attachments for all kinds of functions? _________________ John & Cathy
