Hi, K11OG friends,
I've been around here since I found the K11OG, probably 10 or so years ago. I've participated in rides, meetings, helped members with hands-on mechanical help, parts, advice and cooked spaghetti a few times. I hope to continue all this, BUT...
A couple of weeks ago I had an endoscopy. Last Wed. the doctor gave me the results - gastric cancer. I had a CT scan on Thurs. and it looks as if it is confined to the stomach and a few local lymph nodes. There are no spots on the liver, lungs, kidneys, etc. The doctor said I need major surgery, "yesterday". I hope to have this done in Dallas, as my daughter is there and can help me during the recovery phase, and happens to work in a research lab at one of the teaching hospitals there. And it should be done soon, so if I don't post for a while, you'll know why.
I don't need any help (now), but while I'm in Dallas (daughter lives in Arlington), I certainly wouldn't mind visits from local BMW aficionados.
Thanks and Regards,
Phil |

Ahh fuck Phil. Why does it seem like these things happen to the best people?
Keep your chin up and your spirits high.
Get 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions. Insist on knowing everything. Research your cancer like your life depends on it. Trust your doctors....to a point. In the end, its your body. You are the one in charge. Don't take anything at face value.
You are in for a fight, my friend. Make no mistake about that. But it is a fight that can and will be won. You need to arm yourself with research and the best team of doctors you can find.
I wish you warm thoughts and heartfelt prayers in your struggle, Phil. Anything I can do...phone calls, advice, money etc.....you have my number. (I can't travel, unfortunately)
You can't leave us, you old bastard. I absolutely forbid it. The world is a better place with Phil Marvin in it.

All my best to you Phil during this surgery phase. When you get your strength back, I hope we can meet up and ride southwest Texas some day soon.

My heartfelt blessings and prayers for you Phil.
My wife went thru treatment(surgery) for colon cancer early last year(caught it really early) and has never felt better since.
You can get thru this.
Like others have said, don't take the 1st opinion. Listen to their advice and remember that the choice is YOURS. _________________ Ride safe.

Phil
My heart and prayers are with you. I am closer now so if you need something please don't hesitate to ask. I drove 27 hours straight out to Albuquerque so if you need something I will be there, no problem.

This is tough news for sure, but they caught it before it was worse, which is very good.
I hope the surgery and recovery goes well. _________________ M N B
