Hows come? Air management, suspension, paint job, ergonomics?

Hmmmm is right.

IMHO- solid color repaints or your BMW logo bike look great.

The OEM paint combos (blue/yellow or red/yellow) are a bit too much like cartoon graphics.

How is the heat? From what I have read, the K1 is hotter than the standard K100/1100RS.

And, the big question- does it have a long term place in your garage?

Between what I've done to it:

* low mile spark plug leads and coils
* replaced all of the stuff on all 4 cylinders between the TBs and head because the #4 had an air leak so I replaced it all while I had things apart
* reconditioned FIs
* TB synch
* changed all of the oil and fluids
* added cruise control
and a bunch of other stuff

and what the dealer i got it from did to it
* new steering head bearings
* new drive shaft and FD pivot bearings
* bled the front brakes (I think when they did the steering head bearings - I bled the rear after I got it)

It's pretty much running like a brand new bike and is a hoot to ride. It's pretty much a K100RS4V with slightly different geometry and fairing

Having a 34" inseam I wasn't sure the rearset peg ergos would work for me but I can do 14 hour days on it no problem. I was wearing Kevlar lined jeans though - I think anything with real knee armor might be a tight fit.

The stock seat is sucky but an Alaska butt pad made it a bit more tolerable.

The Hagen shock on it seems to work pretty well.

What they say about it having the turning radius of a Mac truck is true but that's just a minor annoyance if you need to do a U-turn.

That roundel is just a bunch of giant stickers. Peel 'em off and it's a 670 metallic black bike.

The heat's about the same as a K1100RS. I gave it a Johnny blanket though so it's not too much of an issue.

Probably won't own it for very long. Don't have room for it and since I like to tour with lots 'o crap the limited storage is an issue for me.

But I'd always wanted to log decent some miles on one to see what it was really like. The only way to do that was to buy one and the price was right.

Sounds familiar- like trying to maneuver a Ducati Monster around a garage or on a 2 lane u-turn. Shocked Good thing these bikes make up for it out on the open road.

I always liked the looks of the K1 and K1100's. I remember seeing a K1 for the first time in a tiny 3 bike shop some time around 1991 or 1992. I thought it would be cool to own one but the first chance I got at a K bike is the K1100 I bought last year. What's the ride like in comparison to the K1100?
If I remember correctly these have a slightly smaller displacement then a K1100.
