hey gang just coming home and my headlight went out, Crying or Very sad and now that i think about it they did the same the other nite, for just a second, after activating the heated grips(almost for the first time)so at first i thought it was the bulb(just replaced 500 km ago)but then noticed on flash to pass the headlight worked so rode for a bit and played with it and got the light to work on high beam and got home like that,ps the bulb i changed was a 55/100 which i was told was illegal and replaced it with a 55/60,so what is it ?switch, relay, wiring any experience would help, thanks in advance Jeeves

Almost certainly the switch, they're easy to pull apart, clean up the contacts with fine wet and dry sandpaper, get some dielectric grease from a car or electronics shop, put it on the contacts and you should be good to go, make sure the springs behind the contacts are in good shape, mine were actually missing altogether. Bic pens come in handy sometimes.

I hope it's not too late:-
Please dismantle it inside a plastic bag to avoid "ping fukit" loss of bits.

And, more importantly DO NOT use wet / dry if you can help it. It will fubar the contacts by removing the plating & leaving grit embedded in the surface. IMHO the roughest abrasive to use is the inside surface of a cereal box, sprayed with WD 40 or contact cleaner.

Check this link about dismantling the switch.

I would advice to mount relays in the headlight circuit, to get less load on the switch.
They´re easily fried, even with the standard bulb, have repaired a whole bunch of them.
