1995 K1100LT. Has anyone done a cleanup and new piston while leaving the master cyl on the handlebar to avoid messing with removal, ie. the heated grip wiring? Or is there too much stuff in the way? I'm thinking it wouldn't be too bad if I protect the bike with plastic and use a pan underneath, but not sure if it's all accessible. _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

Yes - a lot of us have done it. No, there is not too much stuff in the way. Definitely protect the painted parts - brake fluid takes paint off pretty fast.

Thanks Jim, I did search but missed that one (looking in Tech forum) or didn't go back far enough.
Great instructions - I appreciate your posting it up again.

+1 from me. Not too difficult and no need to mess with the heated grip!

I used a basting pipe (for basting the turkey !!)- plastic tube with rubber bulb to suck out old fluid. Get it in kitchen section of shop.
The little screw at the back to release the piston allows the fluid to run out if you remove it first. |

| I believe the washer and the seal are just a dust protector. The seal is there to protect from dust entering and scoring the bore. If it wasn't on your original one, this may be why it got scored. |
