Had a similar problem with mine at the back end of last year - stopped a perfectly working bike to do the clutch and main seal and put it all back together with the same shims it worked with before but the abs kept throwing a rear sensor fault. when re setting i found my switch was a little iffy so cleaned it up and put it back together and shimmed down the rear sensor to the min clearance (it was at .6 before so just within spec).
ABS re set fine but about a 1000 miles later the ABS threw a fault again - checked the code and it showed a rear sensor again. Tried to re set it and found my switch had given up completely so changed the switch out for a second hand one and the system re set first time without touching the sensor........ so that leads me to believe that a dodgy dash switch can give you all sorts of faults - it defies all logic to me and my reasonable electronics understanding but it seems to have worked.
I think the Germans may have installed some rare smoke in the wiring when they built these bikes which appears to be able to jump from wire to wire without leaking out |

Well, it seems I've been fretting & stewing for the last several months over an issue I couldn't have fixed anyway!
Each hydro unit brain is coded to the model (and maybe even model year) in which it is installed.
Thursday afternoon, I took the bike to the dealership to have them hook it up to the diagnostic computer. The tech said that as soon as he hooked it up, the computer told him my replacement hydro unit was from an R1100RT, and wasn't coded correctly for my bike. Then it asked him if he would like to re-code the brain to match my bike. Click yup . . . done deal! That'll be $56 please!
It was worth every single penny!
I'm a happy camper! _________________ Scot
