| Just took the final drive off again to replace a paralever bearing and noticed the rear universal joint in the final drive is KAPUTT. Motorworks don't seem to list this part, and Motobins just sell a brand new compete shaft at huge cost... Does anyone have a good spare or know where I can get one? |

BMW sells it as a whole, and there are 2 different drive shafts that you cannot mix front and back. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Well, by BMW standards, the u-joints aren't an individually replaceable part.
You may be able to find a used shaft on-line.
There are some companies that will rebuild your drive shaft and install joints.
If you do some searching you can probably find a link or a part #(non-bmw) for a joint you can have put in.
It's not a real easy replacement, but it can be done. The existing joints are not kept in place by any kind of a keeper ring or clip like any replacemnt joint will be. So you will have to be aware of that and be prepared to modify the yoke for that.
I think your best u-joint to find is one that used an internal keeper ring. One that clips on the "inboard" part of the cap, on the inside edge of the yoke. _________________ Ride safe.

*update*
Just bagged a K100 16v complete bevel box, swingarm and driveshaft from Ebay- hope the shaft is OK. I've found a supplier for the Hardy Spicer, so will rebuild my original shaft when I get one. The joint is 19x44. Be careful when searching as its commonly used as a car steering column joint, which isn't strong enough, the correct joint is sealed for life and is specific to BMW.

Careful with a steering shaft UJ.
Paul Edlington (NZ) had a shop install one of those on his driveshaft. Didn't last too long. Not meant for those loads. _________________ John & Cathy

Just had a long and interesting conversation with Russell from IMS Ltd, a K owner himself. He can supply and fit the correct UJ and rebuild driveshafts- and is up for maybe looking into a modified type with circlip fittings. I'll be sending the original shaft to him once I get my used shaft on.
