My (new to me) ’94 K1100LT only came to me with a folding key and no key code. I checked out
http://www.stephenbottcher.net/BMW/keys.htm
and believe that I now have my key code. If I did it correctly, my key code has 5 numbers. If you have an original key and the key code, to match it, could you please check it against the information on the above site and tell me if yours fits this description. I plan on getting a couple of flat keys and having them cut to my key code and then using the new key and save the original. Why anyone sells a bike like this and keeps the; flat keys, key codes, BMW alarm system remote, and tool kit is beyond me. Thanks, De Smile

Hi De,

If you have the folding key, a new key can be cut from it. BMW keys are steel, not brass - some places won't cut them.

Thanks for the link.

Hello!

Measurements on my cases keys, cut no:
1 - 0,83 0,85
2 - 1,35
3 - 1,75 1,77 1,82 1,88 1,85 1,84
4 - 2,30 2,35 2,34 2,35
5 - 2,85
all in mm.
I use digital calliper and 5 cases keys I have in my pocket. I also checked master ignition keys, they are really worn. I guess if I would order a new key according to numbers it would not work. After long time the key and the lock are matched together.
Spacing between cuts is as described in the link.

Funny...I was about to post that link for you in your other post related to this. Obviously you knew where to look for key code reading already.

I can verify that the system described on that site is accurate. I used it to determine my code initially as you have, but then lucked out and got the key code from the dealer where my bike was originally sold. My interpreted code from that site matched the code exactly.

My '94 had a code beginning with E5, then followed by 5 digits corresponding to the notches as described. (E+Six digits in the code, but the first was "blank" at 5.)

Interesting, my machine is from 10/1995 and codes begin with letter A + 5 digits.
