I went about the process of getting my new bike registered today, starting with sorting a new front tyre , picking up a rego label holder & licence plate cover, obtaining a roadworthy inspection & certificate , getting compulsory third party insurance , sliding by the post office to pick up my newly acquired shoei helmet then heading down to my local department of transport / main roads to fork out the cash, get the paperwork stamped and walk out happily , lighter in wallet with a shiny new number plate.
Oh how naive i was !
It turns out that my bike had indeed been a Queensland police bike in a former life , having spent most of it's time in the area i grew up in. My neighbor being a retired walloper assured it would have been very well service & never used in any kind of inclement weather.
Long story short, it was registered as a single seater previously & now needs a modification plate or a single seat put back on. Either way , a new roadworthy will need to be obtained regardless of which way i decide to go.....

If you don't want to carry a pillion then single seat rego is the way to go.
Under half of dual seat rego. Shouldn't be too hard to source a cop single seat and rear cowl.

So what you need to do is call Brian Harper at

http://www.motorcycleroadworthys.com.au/contact.html

and ask him to sort it, he'll come to you for bugger all and give you a single seat rego hopefully.

Tell him Derek from the Laverda club sent you.

No promises though on whether it can be done but he'll sort you out.

I guess the thing that sticks in my craw here is the fact i'm having to fork out more money to get it registered when there is nothing wrong with it the way it is. To legally make it a 2 seater in the eye's of QT ( paying more rego fee's) i have to get a mod plate or buy another seat , forking out more cash in addition to another roady ( $110 ).
All because Qld police registered it as a single seater .
Having had the pleasure of working for our state's finest, i know that this is just a bureaucratic fact that should have no bearing on the current situation
Shocked

Hi drikko, Brian did the roady today , providing his usual friendly service Cool
It was only when i got to QT that the little nazi fekkers behind the counter informed me it was an ex cop bike , previously with single seat rego & began picking the peanuts out of poo as they are want to do....... Evil or Very Mad

Hhhmm, so are you trying to single or dual seat it? The QT folks are usually too dumb to tell the difference!

OK, re-read yer post, you're trying to dual seat register it when it was single set registered. Well that's ferking dumb! Why didn't QPS have them compliance plate them to begin with! I would have thought Brian could have sorted that.

Dual seat , as the bike was delivered to me this past saturday from albury.
Brian did the roady as such , no mod plate on bike found to suggest otherwise.
The nice lady behind the counter picked up the difference when cross referencing the info on the roady against what turned out to be it's previous Qld registration history .

That's pretty trifling of them to fuss over what kind of seat it has. Probably a good thing you don't get all the government you pay for...

WOW. They are picky in OZ.

Here in the "anything goes" USA, register it yearly then some independent shop (indy Harley Davidson shops are kind of loose Rolling Eyes ) checks to see brake pad and tire tread depth plus lights. DONE.

Good luck with your ex-cop bike.

Not all parts Very Happy In my bit of the country, they don't care whether it has a single or dual seat, nor do we have regular "safety" inspections.

It is well known that Qld is a bit different from the rest of Oz - see Drikko for example Twisted Evil

G'day CK

Mine is also a ex-cop bike. When I bought it off a mate he had a dual seat. No mod plates and no hassles getting it roady'ed and transferred.

Seems like Qld transport is getting anal about things, again.

I had a bucket of brown smelly stuff to content with when I tryed to get the 4x4 registered. It had NSW rego, got roady, went to Southport QT, seems the Hilux was previously regoed in Qld, engine mumber different, and don't talk about the war that started from then Evil or Very Mad . Right royal pain in the butt.

Now, just to get my fuel tank sealed (got a leak in the lower seam) and get the thing back on the road.

Derek and Andrew, you remember my mate Leigh on the Tmax? he passed away from cancer on 3 June. He will be surely missed.

yea I nearly got caught with this when I bought a transalp in QLD with dual seat the guy looked at it and said its supposed to have a single seat, and he measured it and said he will pass it this time. i then went and bought some rear ft pegs and went to bolt them on and the threads were welded up so u couldn't carry a passenger how dumb is that .

G'day CK

You could also try Munich Motorcycles in Perth. They are pretty good, I can get parts quicker and faster than Morons and Wankers just 1km down the from me. BTW if your bike is older than 10 years, they don't want to talk to you or work on your bike.

I replaced the brake lines on my bike at Christmas last year with braided stainless ones. Bought them from Motobins in England Cost me $150au for all 5 and they got here in about 2 weeks. Considering just 1 line cost $95 here in Australia I thought that was a good deal.

http://www.motobins.co.uk/

http://www.munichmotorcycles.com.au/

www.motohansa.com.au/

Another one to try is Motohansa in Sydney.

We will have to organise a get together some time later this year.

Cheers

Hi Frank,

i ordered some badges from motobins a few days ago , but was a bit wary of ordering anything too large or heavy for fear of astronomical postage charges.
I managed to pick up some little bits on ebay such as a new oem handlebar end cap & choke lever cap for about $5 each along with K&N air/oil filters that were reasonably priced too.

Heading over to the BM shop at stafford today , so sure to find lots to stuff to lighten the wallet while i'm there Shocked
