Hi,
I'm having an electrical problem. It runs no problem, but many items aren't powering up.
not powering up are, windshield, horn, cooling fan, headlight, and the turn signals not working properly.
I found an article on the starter, I removed it disassembled it and cleaned to commutator. The brushes seem OK. I tested it before reinstalling it with jumper cables and the battery. no problem. I reinstalled it, it turns the motor over freely.
also I cleaned the ignition switch by spraying contact cleaner down the key hole.
This problem just happened yesterday.
Any thoughts?????
thanks, in advance. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

Doubtful cleaner in the keyhole would ever get to the switch, it's about 4" lower. Need to spray into the plaggy bit at the bottom.
More likely is broken wires to the switch as they snap due to flexing round the steering head.
Check kill switch & side stand switch (bridge fat connector with 2 green wires near battery)
Check Earth (Ground) to starter motor & battery terminals, found mine loose once.
Do an electrical system "tune up" http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/electrical-tuneup/index.shtml

Check the actual load shed relay itself. It will be in the electrical box under the gas tank. _________________ Ride safe.
