Picked up my used 93 K 1100 LT, but never noticed once I got it home that it doesn't have locks on the side bags. That said, I was wonder if anyone had any idea if these bags came without locks or can they be retrofitted. If not has someone come up with a neat way to put locks on them to keep them from growing legs and walking on a trip. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, interesting, when I bought the bike I would have bet money on it that it was black but when I started looking around at the paper work it was registered as green, it wasn't until I washed it up in bright sun light that I could see that it is very dark green. Fooled me twice.

I haven't heard of bags being sold without locks. Can you post up a picture or two? Possibly the previous owner removed them?

It was/is possible to order the panniers w/o locks, that way you can order the locks beside........
matching the key you allready got (expensive).

I can't figure out how to post pictures so I upload some to my website

http://www.ruready.com/bmw/bmw.htm

Check it out, BMW Touring Bags with no locks.

That said the bike was bought in Germany and imported to Canada a few years ago, but no locks. There is one on the Top Bag though.

That is the first generation panniers, the locks you find under the small spring hinged rectangular lids.

Inge K.

There is nothing in the Manuals I have regarding these locks.

The user manual shows how to lock and take the top bag off the machine but other than one picture showing the side bags installed, not a word.

And yes you are right, lift the little latch and there they are, and they all work.

Thank you for your help, this site has been very informative for me.

Greeting from Canada.

I don't intend to worry you, just for your information.
These are not side bags dedicated for K1100 LT. It has old stay lock - somewhere at beginning of K series production. Then locks were changed to barrel type, to match master key, afterwards lids were modified to get bigger capacity. Side bags for LT series K100 and K1100 had lid painted to match bike colour.
That one from the picture is mint condition for its age.

Best regards,

Rafal

Thank you for the heads up on the bags. The Bags are both in very good condition, I guess for their age, and will work fine for me.

The only problem I have is that I only have one Key (051) and need to find a spare or two as it might be a problem if I loose this key with the bags locked.

The Bike is in such good condition for its age that I couldn't pass it up.

Any idea's were I might find any key's.

Regards

Jack
