I recently bought a 1996 K1100RS. I Like the fairings on a 1989 K100RS better than the ones on my 1100. Can I remove the middle and lower fairings from my bike and bolt on the middle fairing from a K100RS directly on my upper with out modification? I'd like to be able to see that cool engine like the K100 and not covered up like the K1100RS fairing. Am I nuts?

Was told today that it will work. Now will I modify a real nice factory bike? Maybe.

I will leave the aesthetics of the K100RS vs. K1100RS to each owner.

From a practical standpoint (having owned one of each) I found very little if any difference in how hot the bike feels to the rider.

I had thought that exposing the engine to more airflow would result in a cooler ride. Didn't happen. BUT on the K100 series it is easier to remove the little "chin" fairing under the engine, allowing more passing air to cool the header pipes.

John,
Thanks for the thoughts. I didn't plan on even running the chin fairing. It should look somewhat like your avatar when done. Same color. Can you email me a few pictures of that white bike to manxbuilder@cox.net. Is that the pearl white or solid white? Do you have the paint code? It should be under the seat.
Thanks,
Dean
