Hello all.

New to the site,
I purchased my K11 LT just over 12 months ago to use as a winter bike, wasn't sure about it at first after a string of jap stuff but like the rest of you ive grown to love it...WHAT a bike!!

Anyhow unfortunately whilst nipping out yesterday morning a young girl in a ford Ka T boned me on a traffic island, no idea I was there, hit me at about 20 - 30 mph broad side on. Im amazingly ok apart from some severe bruising & a firm dislike for moving any part of blue swollen body, can almost certainly say I ow my left leg to the crash bar and nearside pannier.

Anyway the damage to the bike is so extreme its almost certainly an insurance write off. So im gonna be made an offer.

Spec as follows prior to Mr Fords slam dunk into its nearside.

Ex Police bike
P reg - 1996
68000 miles
Electric Screen
Heated Grips
Hot air blowers
full touring top box / panniers.
Spot lights / crash bars.
ABS removed.

Any ideas what its worth or what I should realistically accept?
Anybody have any words of wisdom to my situation?
What ever the outcome I want another LT to the same spec.

Thanks

Chris Crying or Very sad

Good morning Chris...

I have no input as to what the bike is now worth, but just wanted to say that we are all glad that you came away with only bruising, especially when you consider had bad it could have been. The Ford Ka is not the heaviest of vehicles, but the nature of the accident is all too common. ie: Motorists simply do not see us, especially young girls (and others) on cell phones !

Good luck and heal well.......// Ernie in NH

I want another K11 LT.
The bike saved me from serious injury or worse. Smile

Chris,

Let me add to Ernie's comment about you being in one piece, good to hear.

Second....WELCOME.

Just off the top of my head, a replacement could be as low as just over $2000 for one with high miles and needs some work up to maybe as high as $4-5000 for a brick in excellent condition.
And there will be exceptions to those figures.

John

Hi Chris,

Welcome to K11OG. Sorry to hear of your mishap - good that you are only bruised and not broken.

There are a few online resources for checking bike values. I take it you are somewhere in the UK. I imagine bike values are different in different parts of the world - Kelly Blue Book might not help you, but maybe there is a UK version of it.

Hi Chris
As the others have said, good to hear that you're OK.

I would look at what similar bikes are going for on Ebay, Piston Heads and in Motorcycle News, as you are the best judge of what condition your bike was in pre-accident. You could perhaps use the top prices as a lever to get the payout you're hoping for.

If you haven't already I would also see a doctor to verify any future claim you might make for your injuries, which will help finance your new bike. You're surely due a payout in this case - could've been nasty.

Good luck with a fast healing process and with your future purchase.

Thanks guys.
I was such a violent impact I still can't beleive im not broken, First few seconds afterwards just wanted to make sure my legs still worked, really rather disturbing looking back.

Yes to clarify I am in the UK. K11s are a little thin on the ground these days on British soil, but £2000 should secure a worthy replacement of the bike ive just had trashed. Really really gutted the old fellas ended up like this, had every intention of keeping it forever...! Crying or Very sad

Dont get me wrong the poor girl that hit me is devastated and I really feel for her, but at the same time I am self employed and unable to work due to my injurys, got kids to feed, mortgage to pay etc, In complete honesty the whole thing has left me quite traumatised and this is a bloke who's always taken a typical British "Snap out of it" attitude to people in mindless self pity, but If you cant see a K11 on a clear day theres no hope...!!

Anyhow the bike is being taken away by an assessor tomorrow so I guess we take it from there.

Must be a K11 replacement, nothing else comes close.

.

Chris,

I am in a self employed position too. Best of luck with getting back on a bike.

Welcome Chris,
Sorry to hear such sad news on your first post.
The Ebay bike only has 1 1/2 days left but only £1400 & no bids. Save your old seat however, if you bid on it.
Where in UK are you, so I know where to be vigilant with female Ka drivers.
I reckon £1700 - £2K Max. Do some research, AutoTrader & the like to show asking prices for similar age / Condition to give leverage to any derisory price offered.
Here's a start http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-BMW-K1100LT-RED-/160893728891
