This was the ride I started out on last May when my clutch splines stripped in Cashiers, NC. So after getting the bike back together I thought I'd try it again. Kind of an ultimate shake down ride.
Ran into fog and light rain in Long Creek,SC.

The Chattooga River which forms the South Carolina/ Georgia state line.

Headed North out of Clayton on 441 into North Carolina. The rain is beginning to lighten up.

In Franklin, NC I took Hwy 28 up to the Dragon. Hwy 28 is also know as the Moonshiner. Another great bike road.
Little Tennessee River from Hwy. 28

Touched on a part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Arrived at the Tail of the Dragon

The Dragon in fall colors

Just South of the Dragon on 28 I came to a quiet, peaceful section of the Little Tennessee River, known as the Lewellyn Branch, nestled among the mountains full of fall color. The water was absolutely crystal clear. Here is where I sent Phil on the rest of his journey. God speed Phil.

On the return leg I picked up the lower section of Moonshiner (hwy 28/64) from Franklin, NC to Walhalla SC
Cullasaja River along Hwy 28/64

Dry Falls on hwy 28/64

Bridal Veil Falls on hwy 28/64 just outside Highlands, NC

By this time I was starting to run out of daylight and wanted to get on over the mountains before dark. I did 292 miles on the ride today and had no problems shifting. Mind you it's not as slick as a Jap transmission, but I'm satisfied. Very Happy Very Happy

David,

THANKS for taking us along and sending Phil off.

Great roads, great scenery.

Was it somehow more satisfying to ride a bike that you fixed yourself?

I have always felt so.

John

John,

very satisfying (considering my mechanical abilities) once I got comfortable with the fact that nothing was going to come lose and leave me stranded or worse.
