Hello all,

My name is Tyler and I've been lurking/reading on here for a while. I just wanted to introduce myself as have pretty much decided my next bike will be a K1100RS. It just seems like a lot of bike for the money. I have several Bimmers, but this will be my first Beamer. I imagine I'll be spending a lot of time on here if I make a purchase.

I was hoping to get some help with valuation of the bike in looking at. I'll be doing a partial trade, but an accurate value is still important. Here is the description of the bike.

Welcome to K11OG!

Kelley Blue Book puts the value of that bike at $2620.00 trade in, and $3700.00 retail at a dealer. SE versions are somewhat higher. Private sale usually falls somewhere between the two.

In addition to the info in Ernie's link, take a small, very bright flashlight along. Open the oil fill cap, and take a look down in there - if you see shiny metal, good. If you see sludge, not so good...

Tyler - a Special Edition is valued by Kelley at $3700.00 trade, and $4585.00 dealer retail. If that is not an SE, that price is a bit high.

Well, I doubt he is going to come off his price. I may need to start looking for a different bike. Are there any real performance differences between the RS and the LT? I like the faring and luggage on the LT, but wouldn't want to give up significant performance. I've tried searching, but was unsuccessful.

Keep an eye on it - maybe he'll bring the price down a bit. Unless the bike is super nice, I don't know why he's asking that much. Yeah, it's got low miles, and some farkles, but...

Ultimately, you have to decide what the bike is worth to you.

Too bad Mr G is on the other side of the country...

The RS is a little faster - either one of them goes faster than you regularly want to, generally speaking. They'll both get you tickets - if you let them.

Depends on what kind of riding position you like. The LT lets you sit up, the RS leans you forward a bit...

Tyler,

As Jim noted- the LT is a more upright position, the RS more of a forward lean. sometimes too far for some riders. I have seen more than one RS with "bar backs" to decrease that forward lean.

It is certainly a personal preference.

But either model will move you at rapid speeds- very rapid.

BTW, you mention luggage- both do come with the side bags- the rear box is the difference.

I think I read about the LT having a skinnier rear tire. Is that something I could swap over from an RS? Does the skinnier rear tire something to really be concerned about?

I want a bike that will be the best between daily commuting, cornering ability (fun twisty rides), and long range comfort.

Tyler,

Gwen and Steverino would be very valuable in looking over any brick that you might have in mind.

Gwen (a.k.a. Shoganai) has had K bikes apart more than just about any of us.

A K-RS transmission transplant while in Alaska (?) She's done it.

A K-RS transmission completely pulled apart and rebuilt? Gwen has done that too.

Excellent source of info. She da' woman.

I really appreciate all the offers of help I've gotten. I will definitely be in contact when the time comes. The bike I'm looking at is in Bedford, but it's looking less likely that I'll end up with that one. I doubt I'll be able to buy a different bike until I sell my truck, so purchase may not be as imminent as I thought.
