|
|
Hello All!
My '95 K11 RS failed to start today, I keep it on a trickle charger but the recovery guy said that the battery is no good anymore.
The current battery is a generic ES18-12v, like this one:
http://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/catalogue/battery-es18-12v-p-8887.html
Can anybody recommend a decent battery to buy?
Thanks, _________________ K1100 RS 1995 |

Odyssey PC680 from Motorworks. Got one in my K1100 and R1150. Don't forget the little terminal adapters.

I just put a Shorai, lithium iron battery in mine. Expensive, ultra light. Working well so far. All the other batteries I've had in it before started giving me problems within 12 months, 18 max. Hopefully, the new technology choice I made will be more long lasting. _________________ M N B

Odyssey PC680.
I have kept it on a Battery Tender since new and it is still going strong into its 9th year. _________________ Rich

Motobatt or Deka, half the price of an Odyssey and still AGM. Have heard of Odysseys going bad fairly quickly recently, not sure their quality is where it was a few years ago.
Just make sure whatever you get is AGM, that way you won't have any trouble with acid damage if you drop it.
Have a Motobatt in the K11 and a Deka in the RGS. Both going well.
I do like the idea of a lithium battery though. Might look at that next time around. _________________ K1100RS '97

The web site says the odyssey bat. Needs to be chged. at a higher amp rate than other bats. You guess this is the prob? With the short life of an odyssey?

Have a 94 K1100LT with 70K on it. Installed a Panasonic LC-X1220P five years ago, & it has never given me any grief. I alternate putting a CTEX Mulit US 3300 tender on the bike, & three un-used cars, moving the tender every ten days or so. All batteries crank up right away, even after not starting for months at a time. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

Thank you all! All good advise.....
Quick question when changing the battery:
Is it a straight swap?
OR
Do I have to worry about resetting the ABS, or any other electrics? _________________ K1100 RS 1995 |

Don't believe that would be a problem. At least I never had to reset ABS. Only thing I had to fiddle with was the code for the radio. It had to be reentered because of the time gap since I turned it on had been so long. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

It's a straight swap. I also have the Panasonic LC-X1220P battery, which is/was a low-cost AGM alternative to the much pricer Odyssey. _________________ Kenji

Update:
At the end I went for an Odyssey as in the UK costs the same as the Westco. But the Odyssey comes with 2 years warranty, the Westco only 1 year. FYI: I couldn't find a Panasonic in the UK sites.
I bought the Odyssey from ebay, see below link. Excellent service, free express delivery and it arrived two days after I ordered.

I made my own terminals using copper pipe, but it was a bit of a pain to fit them.
All working excellent now, the ABS failure when starting from cold has gone away
