Gidday,
I think I know what caused this but being new owner to this 20 years old machine and also I have not noticed it before..
This morning I started the bike, its always on the centre stand when parked and I let it run for a couple of minutes, nothing new there, and nothing to worry about as it was ticking away very smoothly like a finely tuned singer sewing machine.
I turned it off and walked about the shed then looked back and noticed a few puddles of water about 2" across on the concrete floor directly under the front of the header exhaust pipes and also they were running in line with the pipe.
I got down on my back and looked up under and you could see a small path of water running along the exhaust pipe and going back to the join in the about half way along.
So I gather this is condensation within the pipe and one reason not to run the engine for a short period of time? Y/N
Maybe I should of warmed it up more which in turn would get the pipe hot and burn away the water??
Or is it something else and should I pull off the exhaust system and apply some type of sealer to the join or is it better to let this happen and get the water out of the pipe...
Just wondering of your thoughts... _________________ Cheers Grant

You live in Victoria, perhaps you don't even notice when it's raining these days? Either that or it was water coming out of the air-conditioning condenser.....
Check what colour your coolant is and see if it matches that first. Can't say I've ever seen any condensation from anywhere. Did you wash it recently? I find that after washing it the water stays in secret places in the fairing only to run out a bit when I move it next. _________________ K1100RS '97

Gidday,
I just went back home, started it up again and lied down beside the bike and watched and it is definitely coming out of the join from the header pipes to the collector box, just dripping at first but not as much this time.
I then wound up the throttle and let it run up to half temp on the gauge and all the dripping stopped during this time.
It is not the coolant as that is bright green and no drop in the reserve tank.
I have not washed the bike at all and not ridden in rain so all I can put it down it is that I have been starting the bike for short intervals over the last two weeks while searching for my wiring issues and maybe condensation from the exhaust built up and collected during this time.
Anyway I will watch it and see if it continues... _________________ Cheers Grant

mmm strange, might be collecting in the Cat Converter, never seen it before, mind you I normally start it up and go riding, rather than just going to sleep on the floor next to it, so perhaps just never noticed it _________________ K1100RS '97

Gidday,
Mate you must give it a go, sleeping beside the bike that is with the tacho set at 2000rpm, is much more soothing than the snoring wife... _________________ Cheers Grant

Quite a few members of the guzzi club join us for the Lav club rides including their president, so they are reserving a camping area nearer the bar for us
Last year we were camped in amongst a bunch of BMW off roader types who moaned about us staying up all night drinking and making merry. We reminded them in the morning that "Mate it's a bike rally, not a fucking church picnic" to which they got all huffy.....I mean seriously, why else does one go to these things???
So this year we're somewhere near the bar/food area if you don't want to sleep, if you want to sleep look for a bunch of GSs _________________ K1100RS '97

drikko,
You Aussie folks have GREAT get togethers. Many BMW and H-D mc people up here (other than the K11OG riders) are stuck up nitwits.
Thankfully I have found a local R1100S rider and a local (fast/long trip) R1150GS rider who just like to RIDE.

I take it that as this will be an "official club ride" that you will be wearing your "Designated Dickhead" badge at the Ruptured Budgie Rally, having been awarded the "Dickhead of the Year" award by the Laverda Club after your face plant on the way the the AGP last year!
By the way, there was a set of Jota mag wheels at the Haigslea swap this morning that would fit your RGS! |

You mean this one
Yes I got DHOTY for the spill off the push bike at Bruce place on the way to Moto GP last year. BTW the DHOTY prize is highly sought after and weighs about 7kgs (15 pounds for the backward people).
My names not actually on it yet, quite a who's who of the club
Thanks for the heads up on the wheels, I can get them for next to nothing as a lot of the guys are changing them for Suzuki GSXR wheels to get wider tyres, better 4 pot brakes etc.
John, we certainly seem to have a reputation for riding and partying. Last weekend we did 1000ks roughly with a pissup in between. Mind you this was considered a shorter ride!
The Ruptured Budgie rally which Andrew is referring to in late May we'll turn into a 1500k weekend which should be fun _________________ K1100RS '97
