I have a very strong interest in this project.
I have been thinking about what it would take to hang a K1200RS tranny on a K1100RS.
Any thoughts? _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Yes...forever searching....
What if someone could re-cut all the gears so that there were still 5, but the end result helped the bike reach higher top end speeds?

Everyone who rides these bike just knows in their hearts that they are capable of SO much more and are held captive by their transmissions.

Not only the transmissions, weren't the engines also "detuned" with milder cams and such to not exceed 100HP. _________________ Ride safe.

Ok, I'm listening...
I have a Speed Shop here in Culpeper I'm on real good terms with.
So...the Shop Whore in the basement...I could pull the engine and take that and the trans to them and say, 'make it faster' and give them $$.
They could turn some new cams out of new metal and do whatever it takes.
THAT may be very doable!
I'll go see them tomorrow!

Hey Mods...I just realized I hi-jacked a thread.
Would someone move it to Tech please.
I want to explore this idea but in the right place.
I'll start a thread you can drop posts into if you like. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

And on this subject, does anyone know if the cams in K1 and/or K100RS4V are "hotter" than K1100?

The great thing about these bike is that car guys like my friends at the Speed Shop can relate to these engines and trans are JUST like a car, only smaller. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

One thing that has always stuck out when I do maintenance is how much the air intake seems to be strangled.
When you look at how small the intake vent is and how many turns it makes before getting to the intake manifold- that appears to be a weak point.
Maybe not, but a greater air supply might make a difference, after all- an IC engine is just an air pump. Bigger in, bigger out??? _________________ John & Cathy

Yes, faster engines ALWAYS breathe better than slow ones.

I seem to remember reading that the '85 K100 cams are the "hotter" cams to get your hands on. Can't say if it's all of them or only the "euro" market of that year. _________________ Ride safe.

Scott,
Those are going to be 2 valve/cylinder cams- not the 4V, correct? _________________ John & Cathy

Yea John, I must be wrong on the year. It would have to be a 4V cam to fit in the 1100 motor. _________________ Ride safe.
