On my winter to-do list is removing the speedo and tach from my '96 k1100rs and replacing it with a gps (shows speed accurately) and a separate smaller tach.
Any advice/warnings? Am I opening a can of worms?

| I found that the bike won't run with the instruments disconnected. I suspect it's to do with the gear position indicator circuit (bike won't start in gear). |

Just pull in the clutch lever and it will start w/o the OEM cluster.
