Hello guys,

I have another question.
I have well over 2000km with the Lt now and I noticed a few things.

The engine heats up during traffic sitting in a traffic jam or to many traffic lights , the GMV's start and cool down the engine but is it supposed to heat up so quickly ? For example driving on the highway the temperature stays at 2 bars over the cold lines and when I hit some traffic it gradually increases until I set into motion, if I sit more than 4-6 minutes at a light it hits max and GMV's start.
Is this normal ?

Also I noticed something strange with the oil consumption I think, I drove the bike almost 2000 km without any significant Oil consumption the oil display showed full almost all the time.
This weekend I drove about 400km and suddenly the oil is at half now.....I did not have any smoke coming out or oil leaks.....where did the oil go so fast ? Did the BMW goblin got it's share for the trip or I might have an outstanding issue with the engine ? speed was between 90-120km/h Sad

One of the best additions a good mate put into my bike was a on/off switch for me to put the fan on anytime. We put it on/off through a accessory switch next to the hazard switch. I put a heated grips tag in it which I do not have.

With the oil it is a K. Just think it is lubricating the pistons which is great.

The question you have to find out is how much oil is lost when it is half way down.
When I fill mine up I fill to the top and add 5 seconds more oil. It works well.
Slightly under half then I fill up and when I go on 1500klm plus trips I carry my own oil.
How many klm's is on yours and do you service it?

Do it before it has to be done is my latest saying.

Have a good one.

I guess it s normal for the k bike to heat up like that.
I got the bike at 56116 km....first thing I did is change the oils and filters, spark plugs are ok, front fork is fine for this season.
Changed the rear brake pads...there were none , changed front brake pads and barings, also new pair of tires.
As far as for the oil I have 2300km since the oil change and topped it off now with 350ml ...so I guess it's fine . Now I will carry oil with me. I have Motul 5100 4T ester 10w40.

BMW says these bikes will consume up to 1 or 1.5 quarts in a thousand miles - I'll let you do the conversion.

One thing you need to know about K bikes - they hide oil. Keep an eye on it, most likely you'll see the level come back up another time you're stopped, on the center stand and you give it a look.

As far as the heat situation, put some Water Wetter in it, and add a fan switch. When you're moving slowly, or know you're going to be stopped, flip the switch on ahead of time - should keep the temp gauge right in the middle...

I've also found that parking it on the center stand makes a big difference.

Mine only drinks oil if I overfill. To clarify, that means above the red spot in the sight glass. Mileage has a bearing too, higher mileage, ride it like you stole it bikes tend to use less oil than those ridden by grannies. Cool

The max factory spec for allowable oil consumption is 2.55 quarts per thousand miles.

(Which is insane.)
