|
|
back again for some maintenance wisdom; with temps hitting 40's and snow on the run, spring jobs are moving up the priority list -- brake pads this year.
Saw some listed on the i-net, "sintered". at the bottom it said "never used sintered pads unless bike is originally equipped.
I know what sintering is chemically/metallurgically, but what does it do for brake pads and can/should I put them on a 1993K11LT ?
Thanks to all !!! |

I wouldn't use them on a K1100. A K1100 with organic pads and factory brake lines can lock up the front on clean dry pavement (when the ABS kicks in) so I don't think they're necessary on a K1100.
And sintered pads will wear your rotors noticeably faster.
I recently tried some on the front of my K75 that has all braided stainless and no mush in the system. The sintered pads "bite" way too hard and make the brakes more or less "binary" with no real feel in the brake lever. Went back to regular pads.

I'll second the motion on increased wear. When Had my shop and worked refurbished old Goldwings I came across a couple of GL1100s that had heavily worn brake rotors done in by sintered pads. Sintered pads make for good brakes but are much harder than the organics. Groovin' might be good at a beach on a nice day but not on rotors. _________________ Paul W.
