What kind of fuel mileage should one expect from a good running '97 K1100LT?
I'm currently getting 40.5-40.75 mpg mixed country roads and slab. Comments? |

I have a '93 LT, no luggage riding single I've averaged 43.6 over the last 900 miles. Mixed usage as you. I ride 72-75mph on the interstate, and prefer to take backroads for the view. Best tank was 45.4, worst was 41.0 was almost all in town. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

My '92 K100RS- I see 46-47 mpg pretty much all the time.
Running hard in lower gears drops it to the low 40's
Does the smaller fairing of an RS make that difference? _________________ John & Cathy

1 up, not much in the bags. 43-44 commuting on mostly 2 lane roads.

41-42 for around town driving, not sure about the highway, have not had it out on the highway for a whole tank in a while, long overdue for that. _________________ Brian

I ride my LT 100% one up. I get an overall average of 42.0 - mostly non-freeway riding. _________________ SL

Last tank was 43mpg using midrange gas. About 50/50 town and slab running 70-75mph on the slab. _________________ Paul W.

You guys aren't riding hard enough. I can get my LT from 45+ with cruise control on slab down into the mid-high thirties in the twisties.
Yes, the fairing makes a difference. Pushing a barn door around at 80 mph usually does. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

If I use your figures and take an average of say 43 MPG that works out to be 5.4 litres per 100Kms, I have always got about 6.9 litres per 100Kms, or put it this way the low fuel light will come on fairly consistently at 265Kms, my bike has always had that smell of running rich (as though the choke is on) and the black on the end of the exhaust and many a rider following me also smelling that rich mixture. Is there a way of leaning out the mixture? The Australian models don't have an exhaust sensor, so I wonder if that makes a difference?
Cheers
Lou

While looking around on the IBMWR site I found an article about poor mileage on an '85 K. They suggested testing the resistance of the temp sensor (which tells the FI box when the engine is warm). I plan to do this as soon as I find out which contact in the FI connector is #10.
Is there a document that maps out that connector available anywhere on the net? |

Well, on a '97LT....
Air temp sensor input is term 24 and 14.
Coolant temp input is term 7 and 14. _________________ Ride safe.

| I seem to get better fuel mileage with my wife on the back,,,,she is like my cruise control, keeps it at a steady controlled pace,,,when I run solo the bike seems to just take off and suck fuel like it was a hungry baby on a fresh bottle,,, go figure,,,,,,,,,Hilton |

Thanks for the information on which pins are which on my '97 Scott. Now, when I remove the plug from the FI unit and I'm holding the plug in my left hand, with the "hook" at the top and the metal retainer clip at the bottom, how are the pins numbered? are there numbers stamped on the plug?Is there a document that helps determine which pins are which?
Thanks, Dave |
