Forgive my ignorance but I can't for the life of me locate a suitable (or correct) position for the earth strap. It has a 6 mm hole thro' it which is a clue but I am still struggling to nail it!
Any help or ideas would be helpful.

By chance is 1 end of it landed?
What area of the bike are you working with this at..... under the seat? behind the headlight?
From the battery, the main ground line goes down to the starter base bolts that connect it to the transmission housing.
Sometimes the radio antenna base of the LT's will have a braided ground strap that should be long enough to reach the main threaded ground point under the front of the fuel tank that will have other 'brown' ground wires landed.
Also at the Motronic plug connector there will be a stray single wire connector that will connect at a male grounding tab to ground the case of the electronics assy.

Thanks Scott,
sorry should have said (battery earth). Never thought of siting it there, it fits just right, though it is not very accessible!
Thanks for your help and time.
