If i have the fuel pump relay in my hand, is there a simple way to test it to see if it is ok? I know the fuel pump is ok. I am wondering if i have a wiring or relay problem

I looked thru many posts to find the answer about testing on the relay but found none. I did find about 50 posts on checking the pump though!

Thanks in advance
Mike

Standard automotive relay. It has four pins labelled 30, 85, 86 and 87. Coil is between 85 and 86. Use an ohmmeter to test resistance; should be in the 100-200 ohm range. Normally open contacts are between 30 and 87. Ue the ohmmeter to test continuity. It should be open circuit. If the coil measures correctly, apply 12V to the coil pins and test continuity between 30 and 87; it should be close to zero ohms.

If this test passes, the relay is good.

If your pump is not working, it might not be the relay. You could have side stand switch problems.

Thank You!!!!!

It is the side stand that is the problem!! I wish I new that BEFORE I pushed it a mile last night to get it home. Had the kick stand down all the way just in case I couldnt handle the weight all of sudden. And I did try to start it a few times in that mile! Of course the Kick stand was down.

Again Thank you!

As well to consider the kill switch, the fuel tank harness connector is known for intermittent connection issues, the motronic plug is another connection to check for corrosion/contact cleanliness..... etc....

Quick easy fix for side stand issue: Put a piece of vacuum hose over the tang that depresses the switch.
