|
|
Hello.
Can you ladies and gentlemen by any chance confirm soonest if the idle speed on a -93 is supposed to be adjusted by air bleed screws alone?
Ie. it is not meant to be adjusted with the throttle shaft stop set screw which comes visual when you turn the throttle open? That screw has lacquer on it just like individual butterfly adjustment screws.

If idle is slightly off, it's OK to use the 4 screws, making sure they're synched, but if it's too much off, you need to tune the idle screw, and then check the TPS. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

You can also adjust the throttle cable up near the master cylinder. Pull the boot off and you'll find that it's threaded with a locknut.
Disclaimer: Yeah, I know the BMW shop manual says to use the bronzy bypass screws.
FWIW: Despite the factory idle spec being 950 +/- 50, I usually set my idle in the 1100-1200 range as the bike is a little more responsive from idle that way. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks, guys.
My idle is waaaay too low, maybe 500 or so. Could be because of the Remus exhaust or just because someone has been fiddling there without knowing what to do and how.
Plugs were oily and dark but I put a new set of NGKs in yesterday. Today we'll synch throttlebodies and adjust the idle. Need to read about that TPS adjustment, too. _________________ K1100LT -93 | ex K1100LT/SE -94 |

It cannot run at 500 it'll stall immediately. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

New sparkplugs corrected idle a bit - one of the old ones was just fingertight.
Synchronization was quite good but we upped the idle and it is now about 950.
We also checked CO and the device showed 0.5%. Half a turn on the screw produced about 0.8% and the bike feels good. Factory value is IIRC 1.5% and nearest BMW dealer says they adjust CO to 2.0% so bikes run good.
I really should need to get to dealer with this CO and TPS adjustment but they are fully booked for next three weeks. _________________ K1100LT -93 | ex K1100LT/SE -94 |
